Another question, to you or anyone else who carries for self defense; do you believe that you could sleep easily knowing that you killed somebody, even though it was you or him?

In the long run, as long as it turned out it was justified, I think I would be alright with it. If it turned out not to be justified, even if I was legally cleared, I'd have a hard time dealing with it. I've restrained myself at least twice at work from pulling the trigger because I was not 100% sure in my mind that it was absolutely necessary, and I'm glad I did.

Which brings up another point; pulling your keys while at the pumps even if you are using a card and not leaving your vehicle is likely a better option than planning on a quick get-a-way.

One of the things I constantly got on the daughters about was to always take your keys out of the ignition when you leave the vehicle. I preached this to the point of taking one's keys away for a day after she didn't do this at a gas station. Same way with leaving the wipers on when getting out of the vehicle, filling up when below a half tank, not sitting in the car and talking or balancing checkbook after leaving a store. Some things are just common sense.

I stated this on the forum years ago but I'm going to put my feelings on here again. If somebody breaks into my home and I am by myself I will go out the opposite door and run away as fast as I can. There is NOTHING in my house worth dying for or killing somebody for. They can have it all. If my wife and I are home I will stand my ground until she escapes then I will try to escape. BUT, if one of my daughters or, heaven help you, one or more of my grands, is in the house I will be super aggressive and fight you will every ounce of strength I have. Threaten one of the little ones and I will kill you and gladly suffer any consequences I face as a result of my actions.

The same thing with being our somewhere and being mugged. If by myself I will give them everything I have with no protest. If my wife is with me she will hopefully remember what I have told her and start to edge behind and away from me to make her escape if it goes violent. If some of the kids are with us my main aim is to get between them and danger while the females get the kids away. This has all been discussed.

In other words my goal is to protect my family at any cost.

That is simply what a man is supposed to do.

Eventually I think that most of us feel that way, including LEO's. OTOH as much as we joke about it, I would wonder about somebody who could kill another person then dig a hole and bury them, just to avoid any problems. Could you honestly drive past that point every day, knowing that the person you killed was hidden in the ground there?

Wouldn't that depend on the violation that stimulated the killing?

Have to laugh, do everything he/she says, they still shoot you, you're dead, and they say they saw you reaching for a weapon. Case closed.

If I were on a shooting scene and I was the one doing the shooting, IF I stayed there, the gun would be NO WHERE near me when the cops showed up. Heck, while waiting I'd probably strip to my underwear and be laying on the ground with my hands behind my head waiting for them...

This topic was covered in my CC class. They said to make sure you were unarmed when the police arrived. Gun in plain site sitting on the roof of a car, hood, trunk, ect..... unloaded, disassembled if possible.

No sudden movement, follow instructions to the letter, maintain a calm appearance even if you sh'xing a brick. And never say gun, rifle ect... Mention that you have a CC permit, are carrying, and the location.

I had an officer respond to an aggressive dog complaint on my property. Neighbor had come over, and wanted an escort home. The officer had not arrived yet to investigate the report. I had my pistol in my pocket when my neighbor and I left the house. The officer pulled in while we were in my driveway.

I immediately identified my self as the property owner, that I did have a CC permit and that I was carrying. Officer said no problem, keep the weapon in my pocket. Which I informed the officer if he didn't mind, I would give the gun to my wife to take inside :D

+1

Someone else here also pointed out that if in a situation where shots are fired (in a public location), you take a defensive position if you can't clear out of dodge.

My BIL tells of helping a woman a parking lot intrying to get into her car because her key stopped working. After trying for a few minutes some big guy comes out of the store and says "What are you doing to my car!!!!!". Supposedly she looked over two lanes and said "OH my God, that's MY car over there!!!" and left him to do the explaining.

Old Cameros only had 10 different keys for there doors. Had a friend close up the fast food joint she managed, walk outside, unlock the door to her car, climb inside, then tried the ignition to start the car. Ignition wouldn't work. She started cussing tired and frustrated, then looked around and realized she was in the wrong car :p Luckily it was one of her coworkers cars and they had a good laugh.

I came out of a store a couple days after buying a new vehicle. There were two other Identicle trucks parked next to mine  All had dark tint on the Windows so you couldn't see in, truck was a basic model with no keyless entry so I couldn't hit the remote to figure out which one was mine.

One of the other truck owners had happened to walk up just after I did as I was testing my key in there vehicle to see if it was mine :p We actually had a good laugh over that was well :D

Below is why you clear out of dodge if the bullets start flying...

Officer killed during Borderline shooting died from friendly rifle fire

I don't carry to protect other people, I carry to protect myself and my loved ones (if we are together). If someone starts shooting and myself and my family can clear out without myself going after a shooter, no hesitation to do so.

With the Walmart shooting in Las Vegas, the CC holder went after the one shooter he saw without reconizing the fact that there was actually another active shooter on the scene. If he (the CC holder) wouldn't of went "after" the shooter, he'd still be alive.

What’s wrong with leaving the wipers on on and filling up below half a tank? And as long as there’s no one else in the car wouldn’t leaving the keys in the car be the better plan? My thoughts is the car jacker probably doesn’t want to hurt anyone especially there and if he jumps in your car and drives off than your safe. If there’s no keys he’s got to get back out and probably more agitated than before.
