Dangerous times even in small town

I used to carry an extra car key and an extra house key in my bill fold. Having locked my keys in my truck at the store in 20 degree weather, spitting snow and windy, I learned my lesson. As luck would have it, I was next door to a cleaners and I found an old coat hangar that allowed me to get the door unlocked. My current truck has a keyless entry, and an access code I can remember, so I don't have to carry a car key anymore. I still carry my house key, though, and It comes in handy from time to time.
I stopped into the local convenience store and somebody was trying to jimmy the door to the clerk's Cherokee . It turns out that the guy worked for her boyfriend and she had locked her keys in so I did what I could to help. After about 10 minutes I decided to try a different approach and started checking doors. The first two were locked, but the passenger rear door opened and I was in like Flynn.
I never have that kind of luck. The passenger doors of both my personal and company truck are bent where I had to break in. Now each has a hidden key; AAA is useless when your phone is locked into the truck.

I stopped by my in-laws house last night to bring their Christmas tree up from the basement for them. They were not home. The outside lights were all off. The front door was unlocked and the schnauzer peed on the floor when I came inside.

There you go! Leave your doors unlocked and someone will pee on your floor!

That last one is a peeve of mine; I spend more time looking for keys than I"ll ever admit. Often they are under the seat or someplace else where they fell after I took them out and dropped them just to keep that stupid buzzer from going off.

Take a guess where I put my keys when I take them out of the ignition switch? Yeah in my pocket. If you put them in your pocket you will always know where they are. I never have to hunt for my keys, I always know where they are. Yep in my pocket. Change pants: Yep into the new pocket. Unlock door? Back in the pocket. It is amazing that I have this innate ability to always know where my keys are! I see other relatives going on the key hunt all the time. Not me!. I have the magic on my side.. Yep, put 'em in the pocket and you can have the magic too!. :D

I bet you can guess why I don't lock my keys in my truck? :D

For me, they clip onto my beltloop, then they go into my pocket so they don't make as much noise. They are still always where I left them though.

A good example of common sense.

We have two parents in their nineties, four grandchildren from nine to two, and a large group of other relatives in their seventies, eighties, and nineties. So if we get a call in the middle of the night, or day, we may have to drive and pick somebody up and head for a hospital or to a different city. Or another emergency could come up like the 09 ice storm. No power to anything in eight counties, roads blocked, and power lines down. Having a full tank of gas to fetch people is a must.

I'm constantly running back and forth from the house to my field, where my garden, livestock, firewood, et al are kept. To dig through my pockets every time that I get into the truck- several dozen times per day, often with heavy gloves on- gets tedious. To say nothing about my other key ring which has house key, padlock keys, half dozen keys for work...
At the end of the day they hang on a nail on the wall.
