Question, did they start T&G from top or bottom?
When I did mine I started at the peak then went down both sides. I figured it would be more noticeable if the width of the boards were different at the peak. I also measured down and chalked a parallel line so I could keep it parallel till it hit the wall. I was able to get long enough pieces of T&G that it spanned the width of the bedroom so no end joints. Love the look of the wood.

Thanks,

My area is raftered, so there is a 4' wide flat area below collar ties (with light and ceiling fan), and then it slopes down each side. I think its 10 ft long, so i also want to go with no end seams, although i think they dont hurt the look. I do have a skylight on one slope I need to frame around.

I have (provincial) stained anderson windows, stained baseboard and window molding/sills. Not sure if i want the ceiling that dark to match, or keep it lighter.

Found a supplier in Lancaster PA, 8" T&G edge and center bead standard grade at $.69 lf. They stock 8' and 12'

My FR is partly 8ft ceiling with a room above, other part opens up to a vaulted ceiling. Original plan was a fireplace and stone up the end. So maybe Ill put TG on the vaulted.

Also thinking about my porch ceiling, that willctake a. lot.

Did they prefinish?
Could you give closeup on how they trimmed bottom and end edges?
Looks like you used flat with V edge.

They started from the bottom and worked to the peak. They did not prefinish.

Next time I'm over there I'll get some close ups of the edges.

Richard,

They did not predrill anything, finish nailer on all the trim and small finish nails on the T&G. No nail holes are visible on the T&G, the trim has very small nail holes. The painter said he used to fill in the holes with matching wood putty but they always changed color and did not match the rest of the wood so he does not fill the holes any more. He said the holes look like small knots or imperfections in the wood and look better. I think once the clear coat is done the holes will be barely visible if at all.

Thanks Lynn. I was asking about predrill as a way to stay on,the trusses.

I agree about the nail holes. You'll never notice them.

Very nice Lynn!!!

I better clear up one point.

The painter did prefinish the base boards that will go on top of the LVP flooring. It has not been installed yet. Only the carpeted areas have base board down currently.

It all looks really good but I am most impressed with the T&G. I can't stop looking up when I'm in the great room.

I did T & G in Austria for the ceilings... went with a clear finish for the T & G and stain for the beams with a darker End Grain Larch wood floor... came out real nice with the contrast...

Larch Plank – Engineered - Kaswell

In one room I did a T & G wainscot with a natural Beeswax finish... literally brush it on and in time the wood gets a honey golden patina... plus it smells great.

Thanks Buckeye,

We have a "trayed" ceiling in the master bedroom and I'm thinking T&G would look real good in there. Goeduck ask about it a few posts back. I didn't think about it much then, but, the thought has been planted.:) I would do it after we move in.

I did not know the definition or trayed ceiling until now. Coffered was mentioned that I referrred to but I now think that is a different style entirely. From a quick google search I think trayed is what cat fever has in the one picture. I have 3 exactly like that and then this pyramid trayed ceiling that I would like to put T&G in. I probably would tackle the 3 that are like cat fevers before the pyramid one.
