Probably not, once my dog starts barking. I did not say that I was immune; merely pointing out that I have other considerations which are equally real and can be a lot more life threatening.
It really doesn't matter if you leave the keys in most equipment; all that one has to do is go to the local dealer for a key. If you really are worried about it, you should install tracking devices in anything susceptible to being stolen.

I see nothing there about setting a trap "layin in wait', etc. It would be an interesting case to follow though. I think there is at least one other state that allows lethal force against a property crime perp.

I don’t recall saying anything about “laying in wait”. My point was that even when the criminal statute might provide that you can use deadly force to protect property from theft, criminal mischief, etc it still may not be a good idea to do so.

Added a key FOB by the name of Tile that is part of a smart phone app...

Lets you locate the key OR the phone and gives approximate radius location.

Mom was forgetting where she left her keys... her 15 year old Grandson surprised her with it.

Apparently 120K of skidsteers , one Cat tracked unit worth 90K and another were stolen from the Mennonites recently. Having worked with them, I can say, they also talk (like others) as if they were somehow immune to crime.

My, now gone, neighbors also bragged about open doors and keys in the vehicles. They got TOTALLY cleaned out and lost any sense of security living here.

Sure, crime isn't rampant here in this Rural Area. But someone WILL get hit tonight. Will it be you?

We don’t consider ourselves to be “victims” of crime but over the last 40 years our primary residence was burglarized once, several thefts from the Farm, rentals broken into and tools/materials stolen a couple times, vehicles burglarized away from home twice, at home or secondary home twice but nothing of any real significance stolen although the feeling of “violation “ did linger for awhile. In at least 4 cases we were relatively close by when the acts occurred. I’m glad we never occasioned to surprise the thieves in the act because things might not have turned out well.

My wife actually solved one of the vehicle burglaries, which was only one part of a larger criminal episode. She is a better detective than I’ve ever been. After her work resulted in the arrest of the crook she pursued restitution through the DA’s office and successfully obtained a civil money judgement against the thief.

It's more pathetic the moment you realize those keys you're searching for (or wallet or cell phone) are in your mouth

I was walking back to my house one cold snowy morning when I noticed the tip of a key sticking up through the snow. I picked it up and it was my entire ring of keys, when I pulled out my truck key from my pocket they must have gotten caught.

I lost keys on a pebble beach in Austria... did not know it until I got back to the house.

Immediately went back and retraced my steps and found it... pretty amazing since it was August when everyone goes to the Lake.

I found a set of keys on a woods road during deer season. I took them into the local general store, thinking they would hang it someplace to be seen. Instead they put them out of sight beside the cash register, where they probably still are collecting dust almost 20 years later.
