$280 for the Stirling engine is almost double the price here. The US importer must be making a fortune - if only you cheapskates would buy them
(Psst Wng, we seem to be struggling with product placement commission on woodburner fans, shall we drop them and get back to good old 3M ?)

I guess it is like buying a wristwatch. Some people will spend only a small amount, while others will happily spend hundreds more for better build quality that performs much the same purpose. I'm more of a time minimalist (ok, make that another cheapskate :)), I gave up wearing one years ago, the light in the sky or the phone in my pocket are plenty for my needs nowadays.

Eric, unfortunately, Caframo seems to be privately held...maybe 3M will buy them. :) I have priced their fans at Home Depot, TSCO, and Amazon, as well as Don's WalMart post...can't find any listed at more than $150...many different models, and 3 sizes.

I gave up watches over 10 years ago.

OK, you guys talking about watches finally got me to look in the file cabinet, and I see that I paid $30 plus sales tax at Walmart for my Timex W92 wrist watch on 7/13/2010, so it's only 8 years old, and has had the battery changed ONE time several years ago. It's laying on the dresser in the bedroom and I use it twice a year to reset all the rest of our clocks when we change to and from daylight savings time. And twice a year, I check to make sure it has the right time, right down to the second, before setting the other clocks. And I can't even remember the last time I had to change the time on that watch. I have NEVER known of a watch or clock that keeps any more accurate time than this old Timex does.

But since I, too, carry a cell phone, I quit wearing the watch. For many years, I had to do a lot of paperwork, and had to put both date and time on everything, so I wore a wrist watch every day, but not in the last several years.

47 and drizzle, going to 47 and rain. All snow gone except a tiny snow plow patch.

BEF, lucky you with the 100% chance of baking.

Took a hike this morning...need snow shoes just to avoid sinking into the ground in places. The creek has overflowed so many times this year that it has formed new sandbars and levees and changed its course and split into two in one place through the old beaver swamp.

We used to have a few cats, but now only an occasional visitor from across the road, like this morning when I went out...a soaking wet gray tabby took off. Glad Coco didn't see it.

Ron, I'm very interested in your performance review of the Ring system. I've been thinking more about a new system, and seem to get an email from SimpliSafe everyday with a 20 or 30% off offer.

RNG, I've never owned an Apple product, and won't deny they are the best. But I can change my Samsung phone battery in about 30 seconds :).

Good Morning!!!! 53F @ 6:00AM. Periods of rain. High 51F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%. 1 to 2 inches of rain expected.

My reading on backhoes yesterday morning was interrupted by my body man neighbor asking if I had a gasoline powered air compressor he could use to inflate some flat tires. All I have is a 5 gallon air tank, but I took it over and it was enough to get his old Ford Ranger going again. Asked him about the new wooden pole laying in the yard, and was told it was the last one in the county for sale that he could find, and would be used to string a power line to his well pump. Apparently, instead of using the insurance money to move somewhere else, he's convinced his wife to rebuild on their old property, and have a travel trailer on order to live in during construction. He's very happy about that, as up until the fire both his wife and his son were strongly pushing a move to Paradise:shocked: Good thing he's so stubborn.

When I got back I dug out the pressure washer and cleaned all the caked on oil from the front wheels on the Kubota tractor, then crawled under the truck and cleaned off the oil that had been blown all over from the leaking filter. That got me nice and wet from laying on the concrete, but getting everything put away kept me moving and more or less warm. Didn't get the wheel off the tractor before it got dark, and it was looking like it would have to wait until Tuesday (jury duty is gonna kill Monday), as the weather guesser was predicting rain at dawn this morning. Now it's not supposed to start 'tilll 9, so as soon as it's light I'll take things apart and find out what's wrong. If parts are needed, I'll get them ordered Monday.

The house is finally warm after running the wood stove for the last several days, and it was very pleasant coming inside all cold and wet. Changed clothes and warmed up the leftover spaghetti I had for breakfast, and enjoyed it with a nice glass of red wine for dinner.

Yesterday the authorities unexpectedly announced all evacuation orders for Paradise were lifted, and I half expected to hear from my friend that had lost his house there and moved to Oregon. Gave him a call after dinner and learned that he'd gone to his property, found his gun safe, and managed to get it open with a pair of pry bars he found in the ashes. Everything inside was fine, even the plastic covers on his coin collection and important papers, so he was very happy. With that done, his last tie to California is cut and he and is wife are looking forward to a new start up north.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!

RNG, nice to hear you are getting settled back in.
Bought enough plastic composite decking at Lowes to floor the greenhouse, will do later this week.
Food Lion out of carrot cake mix, that place always seems out of something I'm looking for, so got more brownie mix
instead.

Good morning! 46˚ ( ˚ option or alt k on a mac laptop) Thanks for the location of the degree sign on the IPhone Rick. I found out real quick that the 0 was the zero not the oh.

Not a good week for Aunts. I Will be attending two funerals this week, they were in their upper 80s and 90s and had a full life and had been very sick for a long time. Another great Aunt - centurion plus - fell in her house and broke some ribs. I think she is finally ready to succumb to assisted living. The good news is I will be seeing a lot of cousins this week.

Good morning to all! Low of 23° , going up to 51° and sunny. No precipitation forecast for the next week. Seems we have fallen back into the drought conditions.

Started having a bad bronchial cough yesterday when I woke up. Got better throughout the day. Then this morning it's back and a little worse. I hate getting sick...

RNG, I had noticed an oil 'stain' on my tractor's front hub /wheel about 2 weeks ago. I pulled the wheel, cleaned up the hub, put it all back together, and used the tractor / loader for a little bit. No obvious leaking, no more signs of oil....?? I'll keep an eye on it, but can't figure out why it initially leaked. I may have parked it on a slight angle a few days before noticing the leak. Hopefully yours will be just as simple.

Don, sorry to hear about your aunts. Take care.

As the watch thing goes.... I'm still stuck on wearing a watch, pretty much 24 hours a day. So much so that I have an indentation on my wrist where the watch is strapped on! I feel like something is missing if I don't have it on!

Prayers out for all this morning.

I still have the problem with the ° symbol. It shows it as correct, but when it shows up in the real post, it reads 23}1/2° . I have to go back to the post and 'edit' out the weird symbols, then it works.
