If I knew what a sarcasm font was, I could perhaps notice it? :D

The dead giveaway per sarcasm IMO was Jame's comment "That is probably the way a lot of people think. Discussing guns with an anti-gunner is like discussing cars with a dog."

My personal favorite is a Kimber .45 CDP2. I don't really "carry" now but back when I did, it is what I carried most often.

But around my rural property I am close to switching back to a .357 revolver so I can also have a .357 carbine for a long gun. I like the utility of one ammo fitting either gun.

I don't have a .357 carbine but have recently started looking at them.

Ok Ok! Now everyone in the thread has correctly determined that I am a blockhead. :D

Ok, my bad. I misunderstood. I viewed the anti-gunner reference toward me, not the article. Now I get it. :D

Someone is making a handgun in .22 magnum that carries at least 20 rounds in the magazine (Keltec?.) I'd consider that an effective carry gun even though small caliber-- touching off the inevitable debate of what caliber is "too small to carry," of course.
Years ago I was talking to a gunsmith about buying an AMT, which was the only autoloading .22 magnum at the time. He seemed to think that getting a .22 magnum to load without jamming is a challenge for some reason. I'm not sure if it's just that particular gun, or the reason why not many companies offer them.

The AMT .22 mag was notorious for hanging up both in ejection mode and loading mode. My neighbor has one that would fire maybe 50% of the time then fail to load a round or hang on the expended casing. He took it to a gunsmith who polished the feed ramp and it helped 100% but still occasionally fails to load a new round. Not really a pistol I would carry.

As for knock down power in a semi-auto, it is hard to beat a .357 Sig. It does make a very loud bang and has heavy recoil but the gun (my Glock 33) is about the same weight as a 9 mm when fully loaded. If I recall correctly, the ballistics are not far off from the .357 S&W.

That would be my concern with a semi-auto in a .22 mag. I believe Ruger discontinued its 10/22 version of the .22 mag; I bought instead the lever action version of the carbine in .22 mag.

A long, cylindrical cartridge must be in near perfect alignment to enter a chamber. Tapered cartridges can be comparatively far out of alignment and still chamber.

I have a Henry's lever action .22 mag that is very fun to shoot. I just wish .22 mag ammo was as bit more reasonable in price.

I'm not sure if they discontinued it due to problems or lack of interest, since you could buy and shoot a centerfire rifle for comparable money. The .22 magnum casing is pretty heavy for a low pressure round to eject efficiently.

I've passed on a couple of good deals on .22 magnum bolt action rifles which I now wish that I had grabbed.
