Having bad luck with Dixon hyd. couplings

Turning off the engine every time I change attachments is not what I normally do or anyone else that I know of.
I guess that could be something new with this particular tractor? Gonna be a pain in the azz for sure if that's the way I have to do it every time.

I'm sure that it is fairly standard procedure to power down and then release pressure in the hydraulic circuit being changed before disconnecting and/or reconnecting quick couplers. There are couplers designed to connect/disconnect under pressure but they are the exception rather than the rule.

I only shut the machine off if I can not couple or uncouple the connector.

As far as uncoupling under pressure I doubt that he could uncouple these under much pressure. I know that I can not on my Branson with what appears to be a similar style coupler.

Do the male quick disconnects feel loose and sloppy like they can be tilted or calked in the female half? If yes I would suspect that there is a problem with one half or the other since the clearances should only be few thousands of an inch.

Doesn't that make it more difficult to reconnect when you don't relieve pressure before disconnecting? I've found that there is usually enough pressure left in at least one of the hoses that it needs to be bled off before reconnecting. This is especially true when there has been an increase in temperature (Winter to Summer for example) causing pressure buildup while the hoses are disconnected.

These are new couplings with no sloppiness at all.

One of them is usually a little more stubborn but I've gone for years and not blown an o-ring until now with this (L2501) tractor. Buying a new set today and will try connecting with engine off each time to see how that works.

Leave the ignition on and press the buttons for the third function to relieve the pressure inside the hoses.

I ran across this illustration the other day and thought it was applicable to this thread. Just thought it might be of interest to someone.
I noticed that it doesn't show a backup ring next to the main oring and wonder if most couplers have one. Mine don't.
