I have been picking away at the technician's class book for a year or so. Sooner or later, I will take the test.

Start taking the exams on eham. When you have taken all the iterations of the tech exam and pass each one in the 90's you are ready to sit for the VEC examiners. It should take you about a week if you put an hour in each day. It isn't hard. At all.

In 2002 I started using a woodstove to heat my house. That led to a half dozen chainsaws, and a lot of free time spent cutting an splitting wood. I had about 10 cord stacked in the back yard at one point. It became an obcession. I had a gas furnace and a heatpump also, but I wanted to keep My electric and natural gas bills as low as possible so I would get up in the middle of the night to feed the stove. Burn more wood, cut more wood,

Yeah but, at our age, getting up in the middle of the night to feed the stove is not a problem...

You needed to have a 'leak' anyway. :)

"not" getting up in the middle of the night can result in a real problem. Nice thing about being retired - up whenever, nap at the drop of a hat

I have to keep telling the 'ol bod - just because I'm in my big soft recliner doesn't mean a nap, necessarily. There are other things - football games, Carrie Underwood, stupid/funny commercials. Oh, yes, and I almost forgot - the game.

In 1989, we bought our hardware store in Ft. Myers, Florida. I became Hardware Jack - and sometimes Tropical Jack. The name of the store was - and still is- Tropical Hardware. We sold the store - for the second time - in 2014. This brought great joy to my wife, but I still miss it. Happy wife - happy life!

This year, we moved out of Florida and to the mountains of Western North Carolina. A great place to live. I don’t miss Florida, but I do miss my customers. Life goes on.....

It make me happy to see that our avatars are of good times and memories. I grew up in a small town where timber and lumber were king - Omak, WA. I can still hear the roar of the Jake brakes as a loaded log truck rounded the corner and came down Main St. One left turn - over the bridge on the Okanogan river - Biles-Coleman lumber mill was in sight.

I'm sure that the rattle of the Jake brakes, like my turn-out straight pipes on my Harley - irritated some. That sound and you know exactly what is coming - you NEVER pulled out ahead of a log truck. In all my years in Omak - there never was an accident involving a log truck. My Harley has brought many a driver to full attention as I passed by.
Loud motorcycles were the topic of bad and other obnoxious drivers. I always pass loud motorcycles as soon as possible

Streetcar - you may pleased to know then, my 20+years of riding my Harley Davidson Low Rider are over. I gave it to my son. Now he howls & prowls. I ride a 2018 BMW R1200GSA. When I really "step" on the new BMW - sounds just like an F-16 Fighting Falcon spooling up. Otherwise - it's so quiet, I can pass a field mouse urinating on a wad of cotton and go on, unnoticed.

In the day - I knew "the man" well. Local LEO gal would stop me almost every time I rode thru Cheney. Finally, one day, I asked her what her basic concern with me was. Surprisingly, her reply - - " I simply don't like motorcycles ".

To each his own. Carry on - Grasshopper.

Stuckmotor describes the engine in my WD. I let water get into the exhaust and it's been stuck ever since.

I think a lot of times my User ID should be - "dumb". I've sure learned a lot here on TBN. Things that help a lot and that I will not have to personally experience.

Probably he used it as a shortcut like kids do today on text messages. I very rarely text because when someone replies I can't read most of what they text anyway.

You should try it again. With the advent of full "keyboards", unlimited text messaging plans and autocomplete, most people use full words nowadays.

Dumb is already taken. Joined in 2013 but never posted

It's pretty amazing/scary how many people have "dumb" in their usernames. "Dumberthandirt", "Dumbfarmboy", " Dumbfarmer72", "Dumbhead", "kiotidumb", to name just a few.

Hey, Jstpssng - it's probably some form of "splinter group" off TBN. For sure, I would have had to change my User ID today. The neighbor move about 700 head of cattle to a new grazing area. Right down my driveway and out and down the county road. Impossible to miss - the Jeep now has an all new external camo job and odor. Thank God, I wasn't on the motorcycle.

From some of the direct replies I've received as well as a few indirect off-hand comments, I get the impression a lot of people here think that should be my ID.

I do not NEED to take a leak when I feed the wood stove every few hours during the night but I do since I am up. I sometimes wonder if this is shrinking my bladder. :scratchchin:
