Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Pictures of your snow weapons

While I enjoy looking at pictures of draft horses and ox and I enjoy watching them work,
I am really glad that I got to start with tractors and didn't have to do any work with horses.
I can just barely remember them on the farm.

The horses are Norwegian Fjords and the dog is a 8 month old black lab. Also today, i used the snow blower to groom about 3/4 mile of trails thru my woods. This are my summer trail system, but im going to drive the cutter sleigh thru tomorrow. Its lightly snowing tonight, so the path should be just great.

Not quite understanding the reasoning for "grooming" a trail to use for the "cutter" sleigh. What for?

Thanks they are beautiful horses. I am glad that I asked you to post pics of them cause it sure brought a lot of attention from other members here.

It would be like asking why do they groom trails for snowmobiles. I think it is mostly to make it easier for the horses to pull on a groom trail than in a deep snow. Just saying.

Probably more necessary for sleds....especially considering how narrow the runners are...
Great pictures, aren't they??

Fortunately I have no personal knowledge of using it,
but I have seen pictures of them in use and had my hands on large wooden rollers that used to be used on the roads to pack the snow so the roads where passable with sleighs. They where quite common from what I was told in the day.

For snowmobile trails, its because they are torn up from the sleds using them and need to be groomed to spread some snow back on the track. Exposed dirt otherwise.

Looks like a fun time for all, for sure.
