The best unbiased internet resource for mattresses information that I have found is: The Mattress Underground - Your best source for information on mattress brands, materials, and choices

We had a Serta I-Series king mattress that had deteriorated to junk in about a year and a half. I ended up tearing it apart, keeping the innersprings and replacing the junk foam with latex and using a new zippered cover. Vast improvement and saved a few bucks also. Several of the major mattress manufacturers have cheapened their product to better compete with the "Bed-In-A-Box" internet sellers. They now use inferior foam products that break down with little use. The current mattress from these manufacturers may not compare in any way with their products from even a few years ago. The linked website above has the information you need to make an informed decision. Vic

I paid $1100 for a mattress and box spring. I? Thought it was the best thing in the world, my wife could not sleep on it. We got rid of it, replaced it, and now she’s happy at about half the money. Good night, I sleep fine anyway.

I got rid of my waterspring mattress this year. Always issues with the expensive heaters burning out and then it leaked, making a mess. I switched to an adjustable Seley (sp?) bed. Not sure I really like it, but at least the waterbed issues are over. I do miss not getting into a warm bed in the winter though.

Go read up on FDA and food...some things are regulated in our food, but not all. MOST words have a definition (fat free), but many do not.

What is VERY scary is that in our other household products - cleaners, body wash, soap, etc there is NO standard what so ever. NO testing of any kind. And then you intermix these chemicals - the kitchen soap, what you wash your hands with in the garage, kitchen, bathroom, body soap, face soap, shampoo...no rules, no standards and then these chemical can inter act with eachother.

Watch a documentary on netflix "Stink" and you'll get an eye opening experience. (sorry, not a great documentary). Food Inc is another one that will open your eyes to our food supply.

Ive always had to laugh at the all natural stickers. What is the classification for that? Unless it痴 made in a lab isn稚 it all natural?

We've had three heaters and two mattresses in 35 years. Leaked once and the liner failed. Just a drip, but still a pain. Glad we caught it.

It's set on 95 degrees. Love it!

sleep on the floor. people did it for thousands of years.

Or make a rope bed (as in colonial america).

I have a memory foam mattress from costco, best thing ever. No clue about the chemicals...perhaps one's pillow is more significant?

I just bought a new mattress. I had read an article about all the mattress stores in the USA with the small amount of customers that each one had. It seems that the manufacturers now make such a high markup on the mattresses that many stores can just sell one a day to stay in business. The manufacturer sets the retail price and the dealers agree not to sell a mattress for under that price keeping the prices artificially high.

The flip, king size mattress that I was looking at cost over $1200 no matter where you buy it but Sam's is able to get around the price fixing by selling them 2 at a time. You can not buy just one of these from Sam's but you can buy 2 for a little over $1300 with free delivery. My neighbor was also looking for a good mattress and when I told him of this deal he went in with me and we bought 2 of them. I was very satisfied getting this mattress for almost half price.

I did spend a bundle on my new mattress, and wonder if the hype about mattresses is overblown. My Dad has the same mattress that he bought in 1965, he is 85 and has never complained of back pain! I do feel kind of dupped!
