Warehouse racking for wood stacking?

I need to do something other than tossing it in a pile on the ground outside the back door, but I'm not sure what. I'm thinking of some kind of temporary frame made of PT wood. Something I could put up in the Fall and take down in the Spring. We don't get a lot of heavy snow or rain all season long, so I could rig up a tarp when one is forecast.

Finally got around to it.
The 2x6 at the bottom suggestion worked out good, especially with levelling.
First picture has 15ft upright that I decided not to use.
Used a car jack you can see on 2nd picture.

The bottom is not done yet, but will be used for more wood an stones on pallets

There are several good videos on installation.

This is exactly what came to mind after reading your rack description. Good installers are a great option for getting it all together.

I wouldn't use the rack system outdoors. They will rust and bust.

My rack assembly was a on man job (re: video). It was particularly fun handling the 15 footers. I don't disagree that long term not a perfect solution, but I plan to put under roof so will probable outlast me. Relatively cheap and quick "construction".

Today I learned that tractor without the weight of a backhoe tends to get tipsy if you try to carry 2k lb of stones on the forks on uneven terrain.

I've thought about some pallet racking outside my shop for some stuff I don't need dry or have space for inside. Not to much rust here in Colorado, but I had similar concerns. I'm kind of doubting it would be an issue for a long time unless it was a really moist enviroment.

I left one section (2 uprights, 6 beams) outside for 2 Northern Virginia winters with only slight rusting. I sprayed them with Fluid Film when I set them out.
I imagine in a marine environment they would do worse.

I tried bolting cheap pallets to sides (fell apart) and bolting 2x4, but I think this latest design with inserting 2x4s and tying them is what I am sticking to. one plastic pallet ($5), 6 deck screws and 18ft of scrap 2x4s plus something to tie top withIMG_20191130_1425561.jpegIMG_20191130_1630088.jpeg
