Spent some time with the new to me 4310 yesterday. All of the main functions seem to work okay. I will have to adjust to the different feel of rheostat inputs vs mechanical linkage on the hydrostat. I did read there is a switch that makes the movement more direct so I need to try that in a different position.
Tried parking it under my shed and it fits but barely. I went ahead and lowered the canopy position some after this photo was taken.
Next I put the quick hitch on and hooked up my finish mower to make sure the PTO would operate under a load. No problems there.
The cowl is broken as is the fuel door hinge area of the hood. Fuel door is missing. I went ahead and ordered a new hood and cowl set for it.
When I set the tire pressures it didn't seem to have loaded tires and the right rear has cracks all around on the sidewall. I knew the fronts were worn but I thought I had good rears. They may run a while like they are but I see new tires in my future. I may look around for a good set of take off mounted R4s.
The instrument glass is foggy or faded. Research indicates that was a common problem and the glass is a separate part so I will try to remove, clean, and coat that when I install the new body parts.
Interesting info on my search for a loader. The salvage company I called said they were pretty sure they had one on a 4300 but never called me back to confirm. I guess the sale of a loader is small potatoes. I called them a few hours after the first call and was told they were trying to catch up and get time to go verify they had what I wanted.
The John Deere dealer quoted $5900 for a compatible loader installed. They didn't seem interested in giving me a quote for just the components.
Westendorf quoted $6,419.49, not including freight for their TA-111 model.
If I can't find a used one I may go back to the dealer for more detail. I didn't ask for specs or whether or not the dealer unit included a QA system.
