Which "Type" of Grease ?

I used the "greasiest" grease I can get...
All joking aside...
I use Tractor Supply multi-purpose lithium grease on most everything...
High speed applications like mower spindles get #2 red grease...
And in my previous brush hog the gear box got corn head grease per the manufacturers specifications...
Really I am not too picky at all about any specific grease...
I just use it and go on about my business...

I use nasty, sticky, black moly grease. As long as you use a good quality grease - its not so much about the brand as it is frequency. My Land Pride grapple recommends every ten hours. I take that opportunity to hit all the zerks. I'm gonna end up yucky - 12 zerks or 26 zerks.

My new battery powered DeWalt grease gun sure makes it easier and faster. Disposable nitrile gloves help also. Actually, a nitrile disposable body suit would be the ultimate.

For reasons yet unknown, I always end up with a couple dabs here - a few blobs there. I don't even count the smudges.

+1 on the Dewalt 18v grease Gun. One of the better purchases I’ve made.

Any general purpose grease would work. I use a special marine version for my boat that is supposed to be more water resistant but for my tractors it is just a general purpose grease that I get from Atwoods Farm and Ranch. I think it is mfg by Mystic and is about $4 per tube. It comes in green and red color but I cant see any difference in them when used in my FEL.

I think any good quality grease will be fine.
That is the key. Frequent greasing with marginal grease will be a lot better than infrequent greasing with the best grease.

Personally I use the nasty black molly stuff. I dont pay to much attention to brand as long as its compatible. All mine are lithium based I think. The harder the grease is to wipe off, the better a job it is doing. I tend to think the molly helps keep things lubed better even if you don't grease as often as you should.

JD seems to be sold on the polyurea based ones.

Grease Compatibility Chart and Reference Guide has a good chart for grease compatibility. Lots of other similar charts around if you Google for them.

Whatever grease you chose the one thing to keep in mind is do not co-mingle.
Stick with it, either moly or lithium.
If unsure what's in service then do a good flush until new grease flows out of the joints etc. so the old stuff is out and gone.
Co-mingling can cause chemistry issues. No, I'm not a chemist it's just 30 years of industrial work our lube engineer made it a point in all our PM's and work orders that a specific product to be uses and when we asked why, well later I was sorry I asked! :D

The Operator's Manual for my Kubota L3560 calls for "Multipurpose Grease" for the tractor.

The Operator's Manual for the LA555/LA805/LA1055 Loaders calls for "High quality grease designated 'extreme pressure' and containing Molybdenum disulfide. This grease may specify 'Moly EP' on its label."

The suggested Loader lube interval is every ten hours. I can "feel" when it is time to lube the Loader.

I use moly grease from TSC or Walmart @ $3 per cartridge, for everything tractor related. My tractor is inside stored.

My implements are outside under cotton tarpaulins. Few have zerks but those that do get moly.

I use waterproof marine grease on the Three Point Hitch Top Link pin and two Lower Link pins, kept outside with the implements. I believe the moly is stickier and lasts longer but I like the marine grease because I can wipe it off my hands with a rag before commencing work.

I checked Walmart to see if I like there $3~5 molly grease UltraLube Moly EP Grease $4.86 dropping point 338F.

Here what I recommend LPS ThermaPlex Gray Calcium Sulfonate CS Moly Bearing Grease, 14.1 oz., NLGI Grade: 2 $11.10 a tube dropping point 577F designed for Ball Mills, Bridges, Casters, Conveyors, Marine Environments, Mining, Plain Bearings, Roller Bearings, Steel Mills. I been using this back when shell was the maker.

Or something almost the same for $4.67 each Mobil Centaur Moly 2 (Case - 10 Tubes) Mobil Centaur Moly 2 (Case - 1 Tubes)

Fortified with 3% molybdenum disulphide to complement a robust extreme-pressure additive system, the Mobil Centaur Moly Series of greases are particularly well suited to meet the demanding lubrication requirements of heavy-duty truck chassis, construction and mining equipment, and heavily load industrial bearings. The Mobil Centaur Moly Series also provides outstanding resistance against the effects of water washout, water spray-off and corrosion.

You may find this thread interesting. Red Tacky is not the best choice for FEL or backhoe pins.Grease; Please educate me

That's a great thread, thanks.

The Lucas Red n Tacky claims a Timken OK load test of 60 while the moly greases I look at are more like 50. What's up with that?
