It's the same here. The desperate will do bad things.... Fortunately they have to make an effort to get to my house, but I do keep firearms close. The risk is lower where I live now, but there is basically no chance a deputy would be close enough to intervene if something were to go astray so it is necessary to be prepared to deal with it yourself.

I've also worked in rough areas of Nashville and Memphis. I carried 100% of the time. There were robberies and other attacks on people just out mowing the lawn or working on their vehicles in the driveway on a regular basis. I had some bad experiences there that would have turned out much worse had it not been for vigilance and having a firearm close at hand. My preference would be to have no need to carry, but that isn't the world we live in.

Yep... I was mowing my lawn and down the block a man was out working on his car... had the front up on ramps... someone stopped and tried to rob him but he didn't have his wallet and told the guy who said too bad for you and shot him... died later that day from the shot.

You just never know...

Unfortunately we just discovered someone had tried to steal my grand son's Harley. He was down visiting when a heavy rain began, so he left it in our detached, open ended carport and drove one of our cars back to college. My wife found a bent Harley key and obvious signs of tampering. Also lost a case of .223 and one of .40 S&W Gold Dot out of our attached garage, not sure what else.

I finally convinced my wife to take her S&W 649 if she goes out at night.

And I will be a felon in a few more days. The gun grabbers got a new Washington law passed with several new gun grabber wants. More background checks, 21 to buy a gun, weapons must be locked up. That is where I will be non-compliant.

22 Mag, doesn't work in an auto-loading pistol, or even rifle. I've at one point, owned every single one ever made. And they fail with stove piping. 22 Mag works in DA revolvers, of which some go to 9 rounds. I don't think any one has figured how to make an auto-load 22 Mag work in a dependable manner. And the first thing you want your home defense to do, is work the first time. :) Revolvers are wonderful in the sense that they are so simple. Load them, than then you can forget them for years and they will work. Autos you have to look at them all the time to see if the mag feed spring is still working and was not rusted or worn. I'm reading many people that seem to think that they will be under some sort of protracted gun fight. That has never happened in the history of any one defending their house from a home invasion.

Everyone knows the protracted gun fights only happen in the supermarket isles.

Many years ago, I almost bought a revolver that had dual cylinders for 22 and 22 magnum. Might have been a Ruger. Turns out, that was apparently the weapon that Charles Manson's Kids used.

Thru the years in shooting USPSA at our matches we often had a lot of LEO's come shoot with us. I can remember several that thought they were great shot's but when the timer went off and the running and gunning started and their results were posted on the "wailing wall", many of them slunk off, never to appear again as they were so disappointed with their results and many were so embarrassed. Others stayed and practiced with us and became very good shooters indeed. It is about mindset, and admitting to your self you aren't worth a chit, and then doing something about getting better. That usually entails spending money on ammo and time to shoot it. To be a great shot, first you have to get over your ego and thinking you are great when you a likely not that great.

True words! I had the chance to shoot with the Captain of the SWAT team of a major city. That guy could shoot...but most LEO痴 are not even mediocre.

I was a ride along when several officers had to qualify at the indoor range...

Two did not make the cut... and they admitted it... skills often fade without practice.

It was a simple test... several standing and several crouching...

Maybe I'm just lucky, but my PMR-30 22 magnum has never stovepiped or misfired and there have been a few times when I emptied the 30 round magazine as fast as I could get back on target, just trying to induce a misfire - it just rapped on and on.

If you are going to carry all the time it must be comfortable. I tell everyone at my CCW classes that I would rather have a 22 in my pocket than a 45 in the glove box. When you need it, you need it now. 22's became bad about misfiring, so I switched to a 380. I have two wallets like some others mentioned. But one has my credit cards and money, the other has the 380. Reaching for my wallet with the left or right hand makes a big difference in what is about to happen.

That was my experience with the only one I ran a couple of boxes thru. It worked well for a "plastic pistol".
