Dangerous times even in small town

I was being sarcastic for God's sake.

Growning up as a pre teen, I had the BEST 22LR a kid could ever hope to own IMO (about 45 years now as my aunt gave it to me when her husband died). At 50 yards with decent ammo on a rest, you hit what you were aiming at if you did your part.

I just find it amazing that I was lucky enough to kill a ground hog with it within 50 yars with one shot.

Also got another ground hog within 50 yards with the .22 below

FYI, I believe people could take a groundhog with a .22 pistol, but in all honesty, I'm not good enough to try and take the shot because the animal deserves better IMO.

I've done enough shooting to know that the gun doesn't make the shooter, but a decent gun you trust can sure in heck help.

Details on the two rifles! :licking:

I have an early 70's Remington 580 that I bought with my father after shooting on a YMCA team for several months. I was a tiny kid and the Y rifles were just too heavy for me. On a 50 foot range it was just as accurate as the most expensive rifles the better off kids on the team had. I mean, a 10 is a 10 no matter what gun shot it.

Is that a Remington Scoremaster? Looks like it, except the forend.

I carry a Ruger Single Seven in .327 Federal Magnum while on the ranch doing work. This is a good holster and pistol for ranch work and etc.

In town I carry something else.

Like all rural communities in Texas we have a meth problem but crime is much less than in urban areas,

I just found it interesting that, in light of the original subject of this thread, that in a farm store in a small town in Washington there were at least 6 people that were not only packing but willing to get involved.

It's the same here. The desperate will do bad things.... Fortunately they have to make an effort to get to my house, but I do keep firearms close. The risk is lower where I live now, but there is basically no chance a deputy would be close enough to intervene if something were to go astray so it is necessary to be prepared to deal with it yourself.

I've also worked in rough areas of Nashville and Memphis. I carried 100% of the time. There were robberies and other attacks on people just out mowing the lawn or working on their vehicles in the driveway on a regular basis. I had some bad experiences there that would have turned out much worse had it not been for vigilance and having a firearm close at hand. My preference would be to have no need to carry, but that isn't the world we live in.

That is interesting isn't it?
