I Ordered DeWalt Tools From China

Where do my Milwaukee 18v fuel tools come from, I love them, other tools are a mixture of Festool, Hitachi, makita, de walt and a lot of taiwanese stationary equipment.
AEG seems to have gone downhill and Bosch isn't what it used to be.

I thoroughly enjoy all my Makita 18v Drills, Drivers and Impact Drivers. I especially like the sub-compact models. Small, lightweight and powerful.

I bought quality hand tools until I had kids and began finding them all thru the woods and the kids forts. To replace the ones lost, I began buying lesser quality tools that were also cheaper. They worked about as well and have lasted, so far. Also, at this stage in my life, a ten year tool may be overkill.

I have a DeWalt cordless. I have used the tar out of it. For trees/orchard there's a couple companies that make blades for pruning. These work great! Also work on roots.

Thanks Robert, I only passed through California going out of the country in 1970 so I am not up on proper tool nomenclature as required by California law. Technically, it is a DeWalt Compact Reciprocating Saw. When I am out in the orchard, with all my tools in the back of the UTV, can I ask my wife to hand me the sawzall?

it takes the same amount of effort or nearly to make a poor quality , as to make a high quality unit,

I realize that a plastic gear, is less money and easier to make than a steel gear, but with CNC machines "how much cheaper", can not be much, but if they can sell a "grinder for $5", so if they can sell it for for $5 bucks, say parts are $ 2.50 and assembly is $2.50, and so my guess is a quality grinder that sells for say $100 cost $3. for assembly, and what for parts, even if it was $ 8 times more than the poor quality, that would still be $20 for parts, so the cost should be $23.

so my guess is that it does not cost 8 times the parts cost to make the quality grinder,

then are we paying for a name or what, and for the under dog company why not put a bit more in to the low end tools to build a name, and reputation.

may be I just do not under stand things,

My new saw really does saw thru the limbs. I have sawed up to 6 inche limbs and it goes right through them. On small limbs the saw will bounce a bit but not so much on bigger ones.

The pruning blades—-you’re right. I have some diablos, and some Porter Cable and all are pretty much standing up to the job.

I am considering making the move to DeWalt only because I bought their grease gun and now have one battery and charger to start with. Almost bought the 1/2 drill set with two batteries over the weekend but Lowes was out at all 3 stores.

I'm a little gun shy because I had a bad experience with a cordless drill made by DeWalt at work. It burnt up the motor in a couple years time and I had the motor replaced which lasted less than two years.

I switched to the 19.2 volt Craftsman because I had good luck with those at home. The drill that came in that set was nowhere near the quality of my old drill in my home set. The main difference was you had to put it in slow gear to tighten the chuck. I bought the combo set with a drill, light, trim saw, and reciprocal saw, with two batteries and a charger. I added a ratchet that came with another battery and charger and a 4th battery. All for under $300. Everything was still working when I retired.

I am still using the original Craftsman set at home but the chuck has worn and no longer tightens as well. The reciprocal saw and all the other 19.2 volt tools still work as new. The rubber is peeling off the most used tools. The ratchet is very handy but it had a design flaw in the head and they discontinued that tool rather than fix it. The removable head will pop out at the most inopportune time if you put too much pressure on it. The original system was nicad and I changed it over to lithium some years ago. The set is probably over 20 years old and I went through two sets of nicad batteries and now my lithium set doesn't hold a charge very long. I did just bore a bunch of holes in the dirt with it over the weekend planting some pine seedlings. Wiped the mud off and sprayed the chuck down with WD40 and started drilling steel with it again. I really hate to see it go but with Sears on the demise and the price of new batteries near what I can buy a set with batteries in DeWalt I may make the move.

I have a couple of DeWalt drills in my watch list. I think the hammer drill may be worth trying over the regular drill.

Ordering from China couldn't be any worse than buying from Amazon. These are our Christmas gifts from Amazon: Fancy convection oven that came used full of grease and scratches and missing parts. A pair of Bose $349 Bluetooth, noise cancelling headphones that won't work with the PC or the Smart TV. New Smart Phone that wouldn't even power up. Security camera that wouldn't function at night but fine during the day. New Sony dslr camera that was used and broken. Sad!

Reminds me of shopping at Home Depot. I try hard to avoid anything that looks like it's been repackaged, stuff will still slip by every now and then.

I’ve been happy with my Dewalt hand tools. I recently started upgrading to the 20v system. I bought the DCD996 hammer drill (brushless) in a set on sale over the holidays. It’s very nice. Incredible torque. Dewalt’s better tools often come as a bare tool (no battery), with a few exceptions. Do your research to find out the differences. The models you find at HD are consumer grade, sub par construction. There is some way to tell from the model number whether it’s consumer grade or better, but now I can’t find the very informative amazon user review that explained all that.

I bought a set of TV rabbit ears at Walmart. When I got home I discovered that one of the antennae had been broken and "fixed" with scotch tape. 45 miles one way to return them, I was NOT happy.

I have a fairly new Makita cordless angle grinder. It is brilliant for light work but don't leave the battery on it when not in use as it goes flat.
I decided i needed a heavier 240 volt grinder so went shopping at Bunnings. I can't sharpen my flail mower with the Makita.
Personally i've always been a fan of Mak, Hitatchi, etc, but this time it was a 125mm Ryobi that impressed me. Under $60 and a 4 year full replacement warranty. Natty little storage for the key in the handle so you cant lose it and quick release adjustable wheel guard.
These things have come a long way since I bought my last Makita power grinder.

A friend uses grinders all the time. Probably goes through a few a year and likes Makita. He kind of laughed at me when I asked where the wrench was, and he just grabbed the grinder, arrested the spindle, and used the disk to back the nut off and put it back on. I guess it wouldn't work if worn down to nothing, you couldn't hold onto, but I did feel a little dumb. I have a bunch of wrenches and never seem to pick the right one for various grinders.

I like the can I can reach out hold the saw with one hand, for hard to reach limbs.

I also have a little older Husky 335xpt top handle saw made so you can one had if necessary.

The DeWalt cordless recip saw is nice for stuff I don't want to use the chainsaw on. I don't mind damaging a an easily and cheaply replaced blade compared to damage to more expensive bar and chain.

When stumping out a biggie this is the way to cut roots vs beating up chains and bars. "Smoother, quicker, cheaper" as I was pitched once, and roots don't wobble nearly as much as spindly limbs. btw, I haven't found an extra-long 'pruning' blade for my puny 6.5a corded 'recip' saw that wasn't a winner for the bucks, IMO proving the pudding on HS's plan above. And this is the one tool I'd most appreciate in a 'cordless' version.

Back to topic, I'd been concerned that OP might have ordered from a 'fake' site, but recent discovery of such s__ and past experience with particular 'tooling' suggests that if he knew the stuff came from China it wasn't bought on one of the WalMart-looking CC scammer sites. btw, I found another of those today with oddly skeletal company info and at 'check out' for a pair of shoes they were ready for my CC info or bitcoin, but ... I'd never been able to select a size. We got onto that folly recently with the 'laser rust removal tool' attention. My point, anyway: If this is like my experience with some resin-bonded grinding wheels, the OP can expect slow shipping in sound if unsightly packaging but likely as not the good deal for dollar we're really hoping he gets. I agree with others .. "pay-pal" or 'no deal' if ever in doubt.

I think it's not the penny saving on one part that matters, but total saving on many of the parts. I saw some video of a guy using an AEG drill, which looked similar to Ridged. But it struck me how they have added all this stupid bling to the tools. I don't need fancy graphics and multi colored plastics on my drill, just like i don't need sneakers that are twelve colors! But that's what stupid consumers are attracted to I guess. Or like the utterly retarded auto darkening welding helmets. I'd be embarrassed to wear one!

Every new version of a Ridged Hammer drill I have got, is made cheaper than the one before it! Lighter and with less metal. At least they have the lifetime warranty, including batteries, which is the only reason I bought the stuff.

There's a lot of cross-branding and made-to-spec by 'competitors' in hand-held power tools as well as car/truck batteries and tires. Only the 'polymer' color/vents of my Milwaukee ~8a hammer drill differs from it apparent Bosch 'twin'. I don't think this has ever been the case with DeWalt like it's been with Sears/Ryobi too. (Bob Vila tours Ryobi plant where every other tool on the assembly line is labelled 'Craftsman', and IMO they're both :thumbsup: for the $$)

I've serviced/rebuilt (from spares) quite a few DeWalt tools, and I'm a true believer in the brand. Sad that thieves love 'em too.

My first Dewalt Cordless drill crapped out a week after purchase (back in the 90s) and I was done with that brand. Except a recip saw someone gave me, that was quite impressive actually. Cutting seized backhoe pins off!

I guess that I'm retarded, as I love my auto darkening helmet. You can weld, chip,, and weld again without taking it off. I also change the setting so that I can use it when grinding or running my torches. I am and always will be a novice; and it helps to be able to see where I will be starting the bead before striking an arc.
