Dust control.

For the past few years I have been thinking about building something to control the dust on my 1000' road before I get to my driveway.. I already have a tank and a little 3PH mounted carry all for my tractor. I was thinking about doing what was already mentioned here.. get a piece of PVC, drill holes .. install spray tips.. then spray with whatever is available and or legal. A friend of mine owns restaurants and has offered his used cooking oil.. I think that would work if I strained it well before it went into the spray tank. Not sure what I could reduce it with to make it thinner or if I would even need too. ..

I don't own the road, I have an easement and am on good terms with the owners. I'd certainly run any idea past them first. Calcium Chloride is a non-starter. I don't want to rust out my cars or anyone elses'. Any petroleum based product is also not being considered. I personally, only have to deal with about 700 feet and I'm okay with two applications per summer time.

I'm still thinking about the used cooking oil route.. it's free.. and maybe the worst side effect is that your car smells like French fries a bit.

Our township refuses to pay the county charge for spraying CaCl so one of the board members built a rig by drilling holes in a pipe, putting a drum in his pickup bed, fastening the pipe to the bumper, running a hose with a valve from the drum to the bar, mixing the chloride solution, and spraying. County eventually lowered their price so the township could scrap the rig but it worked just as good. He got the mixture rate and spray rate from the county. Salt isn’t a friend to the environment but beats the dioxin laced transformer oil they sprayed in Times Beach. It’s also commonly used. They used to require a doctor’s order before the county sprayed by a residence but now they spray the road for 100 yards each side of the residence.

Or that the oil gets on their disc brakes and causes an accident. In a litigious society it gets difficult to do anything new. I do like the used cooking oil idea. I can source that for free also. Getting to a point where by if they just didn't drive as fast, every thing would be okay. 10 MPH isn't a big inconvenience on this road and that makes for little dust, and they should drive that speed anyway. Social codes can solve a lot.

They haven't used PCB's in transformers for close to 30 years. There are still some old ones in service that have it though.
