K, Please note that sound control is an engineering science and not all that easy to jump into. People still complain about there autos being noisy and the industry has been working on them for 100 or so years. Good luck.

Hi all UTV lovers, how many find them very loud especially inside a close in cab. I have a windshield, back and side windows and find it very loud inside. Is there some kind of insulation/muffling material available out there to kill the sound in the cab. Thanks for any input

The problem is that the "science" costs money. Instead, they manufacture a cute little cab that ends up being an echo chamber.

K-Man... in case you still need some ideas... here is what I came across... I have 2007 Rhino and these mods really quieted my ride down. Guys in hunting lease with new machines can't believe how quiet it is... and I don't have to yell at my wife while riding to have a conversation. While the muffler really quieted down the exhaust (I've still got to wrap the pipes with thermal wrap)... the sound deadening blanket over the engine and blocking off the air intake between the seats and piping to under the hood with a snorkel really quieted down for passengers.

Thanks, will look into it. My Challenger does not have the stick shift between the driver and passenger. Mine is up on the dash and I have a bench seat so it may be easier for the sound blanket to be installed.

You'll have a hard time getting the cab quite with the mid mounted engine. I had a CanAm that was so loud that I wore ear plugs. I've seen guys add sound deadening fabric under the center counsel but you have to worry about heat build up while driving slow and the noise level didn't drop significantly

I sold the CanAm and bought a Polaris to solve the noise issue. I can now have a conversation with the passenger in a enclosed heated cab or listen to the radio

Greetings UTV folks. We are new owners of an older 36V electric Landmaster UTV which I repaired and upgraded. Although it doesn't have an ICE. The whine from the drive train was high pitched and loud especially at speed. We also have two small diesel tractors. One older Yanmar and a newer Kubota 3030. I always wore ear protection on the Yanmar. The newer Kubota was a more tolerable without ear muffs. Earlier in life I was engineer for CASE and designed a noise reduction kit for the Uniloader skidsteer line. I knew I could make the machines more quiet using some well placed noise absorption materials.

We own and operate a van up-fit supplies company and are authorized by 3M to resell Thinsulate(TM) automotive grade acoustic/thermal insulation which is specifically engineered to reduce noise in vehicles. It works awesome to insulate vans for noise and thermal. We stock a number of varieties in different thicknesses. I used pieces of AU4002-5 1" thick double scrim to reduce noise in all three vehicles mentioned above. The results are great. The insulation can be cut with scissors and adhered to most surfaces with 3M 90 spray adhesive. We also use cloth electrical tape to make seams and stick the edges down to the adjacent panel edge.

The strategy is to create a barrier between the noise source and the occupants. A headliner made of Thinsulate(TM) does a great job of absorbing ambient noise in the cab. The scrim is black so looks nice. Thinsulate(TM) will also reduce panel resonance. The fibers and scrim are hydrophobic, non flammable and resist temperatures up to 300F.

The following link is to a thread on this forum showing Thinsulate(TM) AU4002-5 installed on our Kubota 3030.

Below is photo of the UTV showing a Thinsulate(TM) blanket simply draped over the drivetrain and taped in place.

We would be happy to provide Thinsulate(TM) material samples. Please send an email to Hein at DIYvan dot com.

All the best,
Hein

Yeah, it's why I love my E-Gator. But it's not for difficult terrain. I hate the gassers, sounds like being in a garbage can with a lawnmower, and with the Diesels (like my Mule) every loose component, gets to vibrating at idle!

Short of spending a fortune on a very eleaborate one with sound insulation, there is no solution. To me, they aren't worth a fraction of what they cost, and are also more difficult to clean.

Who wants to ride an UTV sith hearing protection?

Buy a old sidekick or tracker.

This sound problem is only in the winter as the cab is closed in. I only use it for snow plowing with head phones but once Spring arrives the door upper windows, back window will come out so it will be quiet again like it should be.
