Growing up, I cherished my Matchbox cars. On Christmas morning hen I was 5, I got a Honda Z50... that set the course for my next 25 years.

We were so poor, that if my brother and I hadn't been born boys, we wouldn't have had anything to play with (with apologies to Rodney Dangerfield).
We were so poor, when we went to the park the ducks would throw bread at us.🤣

We were so poor, that when our relatives came from Germany, they were so disgusted at the primitive conditions that they left early, never to return!

When I was ten years old all I ever wanted was to be able to legally drive and own an International Scout. My dad always considered buying one for the farm but back then they had just come out and it would have been too much of a luxury item for our needs.

We eventually owned two Ford Broncos but to this day I have never even DRIVEN a Scout.

Ironically, my parents Scout was the first car I ever drove and I may have been only about 10 years old at the time. My dad wanted to spray trees on the property so he set a trash can of spray liquid on the tailgate and put me in the drivers seat. He rode on the tailgate with the spray. Bear in mind, this was a stick and I had never driven a car. Needless to say, a lot of that spray liquid did not make it to the trees!

Crap. Owning a Scout. That would have been my dream come true back then.

Toss up... Lego and my Handy Andy Tool Set.

As a very young toddler it would be my Playskool work bench...

I still have the Handy Andy Tool box and probably there is the very odd tool around from it. It was quite amazing as they were quite high quality useable tools. Even a nice sharp saw! Funny, you buy a heavy duty tool box today and the thing is junk sooner rather than later and this kids toy is around fifty something years later!

I made money with Handy Andy... one year I collected Christmas Trees charging a Dollar a tree... brought them home and with my Radio Flyer Wagon and used my Handy Andy Saw to cut them up...

Back then $17 for a 7 year old was living large and the neighbors were happy to pay the buck.

My Dad hardly ever bought a tool in his life, so the Handy Andy Tools were a welcome addition to the family. I think I got it at the DOFASCO (Dominion Foundries and Steel Company) Christmas Party which was always a spectacular event. Dad worked on the blast furnace.

My friend had a Creepy Crawler set and then Increadible Edibles. So we'd put the edible fluid into the Creepy Crawler molds and make some tasty monsters.
