Diesel is only good for low speed use, also, it's much more expensive and costly to buy, and repair!!..

yes, and if you look on YouTube for "v8 tractor" there are many more. these are small tractors, the big pulling tractors I've seen have 3 V8s or the 12 cylinder Merlin, or even a turboprop engine!. that's some very serious HP!!..

Correction...their R10 TDI diesel powered race cars competed successfully in LeMans and Sebring.

Here in the US, diesel powered cars lack popularity likely due to the recent VW/Audi diesel gate cheating and the late 70s early 80s GM diesel powered sedans. The GM 350 C.I. V8 diesel was a tough engine but needed refinement. Those V8s leaked and sprayed oil all over the engine compartment due to poor PCV design.

While in Germany, I experienced diesel sedan performance first hand when I rode with a friend in his BMW diesel powered sedan. We were driving from the factory to a restaurant about 10 miles away, with rear tires smoking and no signs of a diesel engine under the hood. When we got to our destination, he asked, "Vat do you think of my BMW diesel?" I asked him to raise the hood. Tucked beneath was a compact diesel with turbo, spinning away at idle with none of the inherent signs of diesel clatter.

Yes, I would like to have a diesel engine in my personal car. But here in the US, we'll likely see diesel only in heavy hauler pickup trucks...pity.

Don't tell that to Audi and their 8 LeMans victories in various diesel configurations. I have a re-tuned TDI that gives many six cylinder gassers a run for their money. Particularly at roll on speed. Tons of torque at 2,000 rpm and just a push of the pedal away. Obviously it helps greatly to have a turbo.
