Interesting! So you put flashing over the muffler that extends over the linkages? Makes sense. I've seen similar things. I can never pin point when it happens with mine, but with the last session, I had to do a tight turn through deep snow, dragging the motor through powder. Of course I was way out at the end of a path I was blowing, really happy I could make it back to home base without it dying on me.

I just thought about this a bit. I guess it is possible you sucked a bunch of snow into the air filter and clogged it up. In my case, the problem was caused by snow blowing back and landing on the muffler and carb and linkages. I don't think I have ever dragged the engine through deep snow even though I do have to disengage the clutch early when backing up because the force of the spinning blower blades keeps driving the machine back for a few seconds.

Next time it happens, check the linkage and also crack the air filter open to see if it is loaded with snow. If it is, I would think you could knock the snow out and continue with your work.

I will! Sadly, the pull start mechanism is frozen up... I just went out to attack my walking paths and test out this theory... pull start won't catch to the motor. Yeesh.

I really need to buy a medium sized propane heater. We have a deep freeze going on... every part of the unit is locked up to some degree, yeesh.

If you have a power outlet near the machines maybe a simple heat gun will provide a relatively inexpensive solution. With a heat gun you can target 1200 degrees F wherever you want it. Or maybe a simple blow drier will do the trick....

No heat nearby... but I did buy a propane heater and left it going for half an hour pointed at it. Pull cord engaged but governor was frozen up, idling high and the throttle didn't work. Turned it off, another 10 minutes of heat and it was good to go.

Almost looks like where I keep my Grillo and other equipment. Be careful with that heater and the straw on the floor.

How did the air filter look before you melted everything? It does sound like some sort of winter cover over the carb area may be of value.

For sure - I'm always careful with fire in that barn. That said, everything is cold and wet at the moment. Always appreciate a safety reminder.

I didn't check the filter... it's foul outside and I forgot to check!
