Sure is a handy little tool, built from pieces I had laying around with zero cost.

I have been looking for something like that, but mostly I find junky consumer offerings or really expensive industrial ones.

LOL. I also made a similar belt grinder.
Needed a few tweaks B4 I had it right but was a fun project.
Learned that a domed pully was a key to have good tracking as well as an something to pivot that domed pully.
Nice project and very satisifying to complete,
Probably could have purchased a similar one for a fraction of my time cost, LOL.

Yes the upper is domed and is made to pivot, one can't count ones time on a project like this. They do want a pile if money for a grinder this size.

Yep, same here. $50 piece of junk or $1750 professional version. :(

So, you had the two aluminum wheels just lying around? What were they in their previous life. I want to build a 2x72 for shop work and knifemaking. Wheels are expensive!

previously a machinist, i appreciate your work. what is your primary use? sharpening?
maybe a little more clearance on the left would be nice for longer precise work such as w/knives ?
very clean workmanship

Thank's a lot
I use it for metal fab work mostly and sharpening lathe tools, drill bits and such. but hardly a day goes by without using it for something. As far as clearance I had to fight those capacitors threw out the build, I thought about moving the motor mount but it would have just moved the problem to a different area. No knife making going on here.
