So the tractor coughed to life this am when it was around 5F. Will be installing a block heater for sure. I am glad I had no need for the tractor during the vortex.

I just ordered a Berne Insulated Coverall suit for the next round. After getting to 50 or so on Monday we are back in the teens (above zero this time!!!) for the weekend. I don't like putting on all those layers. I ride the tractor so not like I am working up a sweat underneath.

My employer gave me a Berne winter jacket. It is nice and warm. Seems softer than my personal Carhart jacket. I wore it all last winter and now this winter. Hardly shows any wear. I like it.

I didn't even try to start mine. Gave it an extra dose or two of PS white though. Hope you can't OD them on that, cuz I think I screwed up on the decimal point.

lol. I was a bit over too. Bottle says 32oz per 50 gal if under zero. I rounded to 4 oz for 5 gal. Does not seem to have hurt anything. Not sure if I had put in 10oz or something.

I've never seen ice thicker than about 11" here. It was reported at 22" on a lake just north of us many years ago. I'm happy with 4" of solid ice. 2' sounds nice and safe, but I'd need a power auger after more than a couple holes.

As for 200' deep, some lakes I fish aren't deeper than 5'. Most are less than 60' deep, and we usually fish no deeper than 18'.

I did see a nice pileated wood pecker when I was coming off the ice. They aren't too common around here.

Went cross country skiing with my wife this morning, then went to a different lake today with better ice. Three of use caught 75 nice bluegills. It was a very good day.

I can't claim that success. The Crappies were caught by my neighbor. The large one measured 18". He's having it mounted. The second batch were caught by my good friend. Most of these fish will end up batter fried at our Memorial Weekend Fish Fry. Yum. :)

I guess under polar vortex prep we should add to keep some fish fry batter on hand, just in case. :)
