I like it when people add ink to a word ending in ing. As in cryink, or sufferink.

Our local supermarket employs school kids at the age of 15 but they are not allowed to work in the liquor section so when I want something they have to find someone who is 18 or older and has a 'responsible service of alcohol' certificate which is worth nothing except the trainers who charge about $150 for a two day course which could be knocked over in an hour.

I had speech therapy when is was in grade school. Deaf kids couldn’t hear themselves, and had trouble modulating speech. Frequently this was a uplift at the end of the sentence. Now all this is what I was told 50 years ago, so my info is dated quite a bit.

We always kidded about a town North of here, Owen Sound. Whenver I or other service people would show up, someone would always ask "they keepin ya busy?"

I always used to say "Take Care". What's that even supposed to mean?

You and big tiller sound a lot like me. I知 in Michigan, so about 1/2 way between. I have used 塗ave a good one on this forum for years. I used to watch Red Green, and he always said 徒eep your stick on the ice? Not sure what that means...

And something about if the women don't find you handsome, at least be handy. My new Red Green is a guy called 1Puglife.com. Down near Sarnia. Quite crude, but strangely addictive to me.

The local mean around here also use that inflection at the end of a sentence. I find myself doing it, to fit in.

Our large stores have self checkouts. Our local chain still has clerks.

There are 2 grocery store chains within reasonable driving distance of me: Shaw's & Price Chopper. Shaw's removed their self-checkout registers a few years ago citing too much theft, none of the Price Choppers I've been ever had them. Both chains seem to understaff the checkouts, and only rarely does PC even have 10-items-or-less registers open. The closest Walmart that sells groceries is an hour away, the closer ones only have a small selection, no meat, produce, deli or bakery. Hannaford has self-checkouts, but again the nearest one is an hour+ away.

The box stores like HD, Lowes & Walmart have them, I wish more of the regional chains did. I guess it's a northern New England thing.

It's true. You walk down the Isle and put a can of tuna in your coat pocket, it's theft. But miss something, or do something wrong in a self checkout to your favour, and hey, it's just an honest mistake.

On Tuesday, I walked right past the self check out with a carton of milk, to the flower department which is outside the secure area, bought flowers and paid for the milk there (where they put a sticker on it). I could have just walked out. I love the self checkouts, except figuring out how the screen works, what to press and worst of all, when stuff has to be weighed and product codes put in. That stretches my limits for learning new stuff to the limit.

A guy I worked with had a saying, "what about it?". I tried using it but the response I got was "what about what?".

Politeness is the rule where I live. Most everyone says "excuse me" when say navigating a Wal-Mart store. Quite often the reply is "oh, your fine".
