Things A ot Of People Say That Don't Make Much Sense.

Strange interactions with strangers. I was on the toilet at a Swiss Chalet on Tuesday. Someone came into the restroom and said hello in French (I can't spell it). I said hello. Then he started swearing under his breath. I said what's wrong? He said he needed the bathroom or similar. I finished my business as quickly as possible and left the stall with my pants still undone. It's the first time I have ever been rousted from a public toilet. I just figured, the guy needed it worse than I did.

You still have checkout clerks at your grocery store? :laughing:

Our large stores have self checkouts. Our local chain still has clerks. We know most of them, so yes, they ask how we are and we say pretty good, how are you today? They always ask "Did you find everything OK?" I always say yes. However, a couple weeks ago, I had to say "No." They are always out of diet caffeine free dr. pepper on the shelf for my wife. It happens almost every time we go there. So this time, I went to the office and asked them to see if they had anymore in the back. They did. But after the clerk asked me that, I thought about it and said No. That's the first time in 58 years of going there that I really thought about it.

Then I asked what she was going to do with the information. She kinda got a silly look on her face and shrugged her shoulders. She said no one ever said No before. :laughing:

They were out of something at the store and I asked the clerk if they had any in the back. They have hardly ever come out of the back with the product, so I asked the kid to level with me. I began to think they just went out back for a smoke or to play with their phones. Who wants to dig through stacks of food? Funny because he approached me a few minutes later, to say, that what I wanted had been on his cart!

We found out long ago that many products on the shelves at the supermarket are not stocked by supermarket employees. For example, much of the pop, chips and beer is stocked by the pop, chip and beer vendor employees. Snack crackers, too. Yes, there are sometimes skids of the stuff in the back room (I can see them through the window in the two-way swinging door), but the vendors are the ones that usually stock those productsm, not the store employees.

We also go to stores that keep lots of stock up high on shelves, instead of in a warehouse in the back. The store IS their warehouse. So you look for, say, engine oil. The slot on the shelf is empty. You look up and see several cases on a skid way up high and ask a store employee if they can get you some down? They can't find a person that's qualified on the forklift, so no, we can't get it down for you. GRRRR!

We went to another large store chain to get my kid a calculator. It was after 10:00pm. They are open 24 hours. She needed a specific model for school, hers died the night before some major exams. We see the calculators on the shelf, but they are locked up. Took about 45 minutes and many, many employees to find out which one had the key to the keybox that held the key to the electronics desk that held the key to the display rack. But we persisted. :laughing:

There are no longer signs that say no entry to the back of the supermarkets. If I am feeling particularly cocky, I just go back there when there is no help to be found. Interesting to wonder around back there. One time, I found maybe six employees gathered in an office the size of a coat closet. I think they might have been watching something on a computer. I surprised them.

They were probably watching you wondering around the warehouse on the security camera.

When I see the employees outside the front door on my way into the local grocery store, I feel like telling them, they had better make an announcment warning everyone that "he's here"!
