Good morning! 31 ˚F with 13 MPH winds brings our wind chill to 22 ˚F, cloudy.

We are not to feed the deer in the neighborhood. There is a population explosion and there are deer traps to reduce the heard by 250. The traps look like circus tents, but nets instead of canvas with a feeder in the middle. It has a remote camera and control and when a lot of deer are under the net tent, it drops. The deer are "harvested" by the "Wild Life Club" and the meat donated to different needy organizations. At least I'm not dodging neighbors bullets like on the farm.

The wind was so cold yesterday that I skipped a seat time opportunity. The good news is that a community wide e-mail was sent to all members and I feel like Steve Martin when his name was first printed in the phone book. MY NAME IN ON THE TRACTOR OPERATORS LIST!!!!!!!! I'M OFFICIALLY PUBLISHED!!!!!

Thanks. No Menards here.

Thanks, too, Buppies, I'll check it out.

We also have Rural King. But it is in opposite direction and over 15 miles away. They have same products as Menard’s. Usually $1 more per 40 lbs bag.

Reminds me of my college summer job.
Production lines at a tin can factory.
About the noisiest environment you can imagine with millions of tins rattling along conveyors all while dozens of punch presses pound out tops and bottoms.
Adding to the joy was the fact that the air was laden with oil fumes as every machine used misters to lubricate everything since those tins needed to be nice and shiny.
The nice assignment was loading freight box cars with a million tins as that was quiet, until you dropped a rake load. (they used hay rake like wood forks to handle the tins about 50 at a time)
All while a horrible work environment the wages were so great that many could purchase a brand new Chevy convertible for cash if he worked the full summer.

Buppies, Alco doesn't make wheels in 19x8 for my Dodge Journey SXT:(
besides that $285 US works out to be $381. CDN each. Then freight on top of that.
Aluminum wheels only last about 4/5 years up here with all the salt they dump on the roads.
Our only car wash is only open when the temps are above freezing. One of the old 'soft spray' $0.25 washes that now costs $3.oo to start it.

Good Morning!!!! 38F @ 5:45AM. Cloudy skies early, followed by partial clearing. High 46F. Winds light and variable.

Looks like another series of cold storms coming down from Alaska over the next week, and a good chance for more snow here. Weather over the next ten days looks cold and wet, and even Death Valley looks cold and wet for next weekend. So looking more and more likely that I'll pass on that motorcycle trip this year.

Sounds like most of us had some real character building jobs during our youth, and see where it got us? I think that such "exercises" are what makes America the land of opportunity, at least if you're willing to work hard and don't mind maybe getting a little dirty. That's the way it was when I was coming up, are those jobs still out there? My first real paycheck was at $1.65/hour, but I could buy a gallon of gas for thirty-five cents so that money went a long way.

Sounds like the new tractor shed is going up quickly, David. Hope the weather cooperates and the progress continues.

Good luck with the big planting, Drew. Perhaps your volunteers will like it well enough to come back on a regular basis this year?

I was up early loading the m/c in the trailer yesterday, and was at the Paradise DMV just past 8 when they should have been open. The little shopping mall they're in survived the fire just fine, but I was the only vehicle in the lot, and the place was locked up tighter than a drum. The sign on the door listed regular business hours, as did the USPS web site I checked the night before, and that prompted a call to the DMV to ask what was going on. Ten minutes on hold later I just left and went on down to Chico, where surprisingly I was treated to only a short wait before being helped by the same guy that forgot to take my money the last time, which caused a big problem when the error was discovered. But there were no problems this time, other than when this rather large, round older man had to get down on all fours to look at VIN and engine numbers very low on the bike. His recent hip replacement made it hard for him to rise, so much so I had to give him a hand. And oh my gosh, he was *heavy*.

Swung by the BMW dealer, and this time found that they had to order the parts I needed when in the past they'd been in stock. Not a good sign, as they seem to be reducing their inventory, something the old man that used to run the place wouldn't have tolerated. Times change, I guess.

Swung by the paint dealer where they used their electric eye paint matcher and came up with what looks like a very good formula for the white pearl on the bike. I got a couple pints mixed to try, which probably explains why the weather will be so cold and wet for the next week. And it cost only $45, a far cry from the $750 the fancy German stuff was quoted at.

Need to get the trailer put away and the softener salt unloaded from the truck, then go around battening down the hatches for the wet weather. Probably find other outside stuff to take care of as well, maybe make some additional elevation measurements if that ground has dried enough. We'll see.

TGIF gang!:drink:

The low so far this morning is -5°. Yesterday was mostly sunny with a high in the mid 20's and windy. Today is going be in the high teens with a mix of sun and clouds and less wind.

Made a early trip to town yesterday for wife's Dr. appointment and lunch with a few of the neighbors. That took most of the day. Still haven't cleaned the driveway the wind has been blowing for the few days and it would just fill back in. I'll work on that today if the wind isn't to bad.

I worked for freight company and all the jobs was bid by seniority. The only one I could hold was a 6:30pm to 5:00am. I worked that for about 10 months till I had enough seniority to work 12:00am to10:30 am job. It wasn't to bad to work in warmer months but the dock wasn't heated and the doors didn't have skirts around them to keep the weather out in the winter. This was back In Denver when I started with the company. I ended up with enough seniority to work almost any job I wanted. But I always worked at least one day of the weekends. I was still doing that when I retired.

Hope everyone gets a good start to the weekend.
CWB.

14°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 24° today. Looks like mid-30s for the weekend, sunny Saturday and snow on Sunday.

I don't mind this re-freeze. After all the rain we got this week, things were getting pretty squishy. The walk to and from the chicken coop last night was cold and windy (with some snow blowing sideways), but at least the ground wasn't trying to pull my boots off.

Good afternoon. Another windy day here, although now it's stopped raining it doesn't feel too bad outside at it's a very mild day for February at 11C/52F.

I have been moving sheep between fields and what a mess that makes to a gateway after a night of rain. I guess I'm not the only one with livestock who goes to sleep thinking about mud in winter.

L4N, you obviously enjoy your job or you would have quit long ago. You must be pretty good at it too for them to keep you on for so many years.

Riptides, always thought the work you did was top secret and if you told us what it was, you'd have to kill us.
Please be careful before you say anything more - we don't want to die young

Saw some auto show footage...why can't I get that new Supra out of mind?

I told Ellen when we saw it on MT TV the other day, that it looks way too much like a BMW Z car, now I find out thatç—´ exactly what it is.

It has 50 h.p. Less than the BMW, and they plan to offer a 4 cylinder version in the near future.
