Tn75da
Hello this is my first post,

We have a TN75DA and it's in need of a clutch, I've done some searching on here and it seems by design they aren't the best design ever. Anyways it's had a clutch replaced before at the local NH dealer. Now it's closed down and in the effort to save money and prevent having to haul it a long ways away we are going to attempt it ourselves. Never done a clutch in a tractor but have a ton gear head experience in cars/trucks. Can someone help me out with a few questions I have before I tear into it:

1. Are there any tractor specific special tools required?
2. Being this is a cab tractor I've read on here that you can raise the cab up in the front to get the bell housing bolts out. Is this the best method if you don't have a lift? Rather not pull the cab all the way if not completely needed.
3. Anyone have any tips or tricks to help the process along?
4. Should I go back with a factory brand or aftermarket like Luk?

A local guy was telling me that when he does one he pulls the engine out as it's easier? Thought that was odd but being this a different animal than I'm used to I didn't want to be too cynical without knowing. I believe the clutch itself is probably ok as I think the TOB has failed or pushed through the fingers as I read it's really common where the TOB rides on them at all times and it makes them weak. Any who, thanks for any help and having me!🤟🏼

Would try to find a workshop manual for it.

I'll look and see if I can find one online. It's raining like crazy here so I didn't get much done today but maybe I'll get to mess with it more tomorrow. I did pull the front cab mount bolts out today, I'm hoping I can raise the cab up enough to get the bell housing bolts out.

I found a few service manuals online, they range from 20-150$ for digital versions. Pretty big swing in prices so I'll have to look into it more.

Often a bit of adjustment on a tractor clutch, not like a car so it's very very nice to read up, do it right and drive, the alternative is splitting it several times and still not has it to work, a lot of people prefere the hard way :)

Yeah with these tractors you basically adjust for pedal height, definitely not like a car/truck. I've read about people having less than 100 hours and having a clutch replacement, terrible design but it is what it is.

If the clutch goes so quickly is faulty or a faulty driver.

It would be impossible for a driver to kill a clutch in 100 hours. This tn is the first tractor we've had that's really ever had a clutch issue, if it was a rare occasion I'd agree and say user error, when there's countless cases of premature failure, it's a design or quality issue. For the type of work ours goes through, we've been pretty lucky to get 2000+ hours out of it. I've read cases about lawyers getting involved because of the amount of issues, maybe they're all faulty lmao.

It is absolutely possible for a steering wheel holder to trash a clutch in 100 hours. I’ve seen it twice. A Kioti DK45 delivered new on Friday had to be winched on the rollback on Monday because the driver slipped the clutch so much the friction disc was destroyed. And recently a Kubota L3301 with 90 hours, same treatment, same result.

Sounds like that takes more skill than running it correctly, talk about embarrassing.

Anyways getting off topic but i guess I should have been more clear and the real issue with these seem to be TOB and pressure plate failure instead of the clutch disc failure. Where the TOB rides on the pressure plate "fingers" at all times it weakens the metal and eventually pushes past them. One thread on here had a diy modification to the system that would help against this happening but the OP never really gave any long term updates.

Anyways, thanks for the help everyone!

My TD80 is exactly the same way. Piss poor design. I bought the tractor because it was low hour and reasonably priced. Had I done more research I would of probably passed for this one reason. I have serious doubts if the TOB will make it 2000 hours.
