What’s the definition of seasoned Firewood? Here’s 2 adds I found with 30 seconds of looking. No checked ends, no age color, and obviously wet by the color. Calculating volume is way above a lot of people’s math ability. Especially when you get into converting measurements. IMG_1446.JPGIMG_1447.JPG

When I stack my firewood in the spring on my porch it looks the same in November. It doesn't really change color, it looks like green wood but it isn't. If the wood is stacked or in a pile in the elements it looks discolored and has an age look to it from rain and sun. in the first picture could be dry wood, the second picture looks like green red oak.

I have no problem knowing how much wood I have, my wood is cut 16 inch. My porch is exactly 8 feet wide so it's pretty easy to know how much wood I stacked.

It doesn't become a problem until somebody complains. In this state that would be to the Board of Weights and Measures. I filed a complaint with them once, not about wood but about a gas station which had an obviously defective pump. By the next day they weren't selling fuel until the pump was fixed... and the manager who had blown me off when I alerted him that they had a problem disappeared shortly afterwards.

I didn’t know that selling firewood was an act controlled by the board of weight and measures. My advice to anyone buying firewood would be first to not because by my calculations gas is cheaper. If you do buy firewood buy it in advanced because buying actually seasoned firewood is impossible and to stack it with the seller onsite to verify volume.

Yup stay a year ahead to be sure it’s dry, gas is cheaper but the dry heat isn’t something
I’m going to give up.

I like my wood stove but if I couldn’t cut wood myself I would probably burn gas.

Yep. Around here buying wood is more expensive than heating with propane.

Cutting firewood isn't cheap and absolutely isn't free heat.

considered purchasing this TSC model, but my 35 ton Husky works great after 10 yrs. This CountyLine 40 ton seems as "rugged" as any splitter i've run across @ much less cost than the examples cited above. just a thought if i were on the market again, this is the model i'd consider.

I looked at the 40 ton TSC splitter you mentioned and also smaller ones with the same design, but always had a nagging feeling about the sliding head riding inside a channel. It seemed to me that the channel would fill up with bark and chips and would take a lot of oversite to keep clean while working the logs. I would prefer something that is open such as a head riding on an I-Beam where chips just fall away.

After reading the one star comments on the TSC website that is exactly what one seemingly heavy used happens.
