Good morning!!!!

Many of us have had life/death experiences that shape our overall outlook- give us the proper perspective. It happened to my wife and I 10 years ago and solidified our desire to retire early. We both walked away 10 months ago and couldn’t be happier with our decisions.

Thank all of you for sharing. It gives me new perspective when talking with all of you who have been to the doorstep.

Not a good day for seat time. Temp dropped to 38F before I got out of the house it was windy and very overcast. I was just about to go home from the gardens when a lady requested some mulch, I was cold already and starting up the tractor for 1 FEL of mulch was hardly worth it, but then she said she needed 60 wheel barrels full for our pocket parks in the gardens - I quickly figured 3 hours seat time and said: "i'll get right on it Ma'am". While out, 3 others also needed tractor work - I froze my ___ off but still smiling.

Today I also joined the wood working club and they will teach me how to operate all of the machines and my wife is giving me a whole year to build her a custom desk. They are a little behind on the orientation classes because of high demand so I'll really get started in about two weeks. The club also provides a mentor for your first project.

Ahhh, seat time.... :) Good luck on the desk. The clock is ticking until next Valentines day.

Farmer, it looks like you guys and PJS had the weather this last couple of days.

I think the most valuable advice Mr. Wagenknekt gave me in 7th grade wood shop was to keep one eye on my fingers, and the other one on whatever blade was involved in whatever I was doing. Fifty some years later, and I owe itl to him that I still have all my fingers...

Good morning. The sun is trying to squeeze through a light layer of cloud and again it is warm enough to enjoy being outside without a hat.

Each day I have been spending an hour or two digging in 2 or 3 cleft oak posts in a new fence line that has a layer of stones just below the soil surface. Slow progress for a hare, but for an old tortoise like me it has been a nice steady way to eventually get it done. I always hope to make a discovery like Randy and sure enough, in two of the holes I found someone's lost treasure - a broken tine and 18" of baler twine. :confused3:

Yesterday finally made it to the strainer and got the stock fence pulled.

14 below and rising to 18°F. Wind NNE 10 mph. Partly cloudy.

I gave this place a 'lick and a promise' yesterday so I could get up to the Bay before the zoo that is Saturday shoppers started. I had full intentions of cleaning it all up today. Not gonna happen. Nope. I don't run my tractor at any temps below about -10 F.

I have a town run and dump run to do later today, then conserve energy for the rest.

Have a good day all

up early but then went to bed too early...
Good morning all.
Eric, could you describe the implement on the back of your tractor? I have no experience with metal fencing like that.

So much of life seems to focus on setting priorities. I retired early to take care of my wife.
It cost me a lot of money to do so, both in lost earnings and huge amounts of uncovered experimental drug costs,
but none of that was the priority. You just do what you have to do and try to do the right thing.

Half my life I've been the boss, half I've said yes sir no sir like most of you.
When you retire, if you are lucky enough to have a good wife, all of that yes sir no sir stuff just goes away,
and it's such a free feeling. Free to do what I wanted to do, which was farm.
Well, let's modify that to include the always necessary Yes Dear.

which brings me to an interesting topic. Maybe Toppop's magic is in the air.
Got an email from a childhood friend, the very close friend with the second house in Delray Beach,
that both he and his wife think I should meet his first wife.
Retired nurse who likes hot cars.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
And owns two homes so is not impoverished.
My same age.

Need to have a long chat with my friend about why they got divorced 35+ years ago.
this should be interesting...
Toppop keep flinging that magic around please.

Don, you just sound like you are having so much fun there.
Don't forget to stop and take pictures please.

27 going to 39 and maybe more sleet. We got sleet and snow and rain most of the day yesterday.

RNG, sorry about your friends.

Thomas, I like your bobcat story.

I had one of those near death experiences after an operation, but was only 16 and don't remember any of it until the doc told me.

Had a good workout at the gym yesterday while my wife went grocery shopping. Some days the gym seems like a struggle, while others, like yesterday, seem easy. Don't know why. We decided to gas up on the way home...price jumped 10 cents per gallon since we drove into town. I think they discovered they were the lowest price in town. Still pretty cheap to think of all the work it takes to get it from the ground somewhere, refined, and then into my tank and still under two bucks a gallon.

Poured second cup of coffee. 22° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 27° with good chance of snow in evening. Yesterdays forecast of chance of sun did happen. About 2 seconds. I did get my projects completed. Today is a trip to Port Huron to visit my Aunt and Uncle. Always a good visit.

Interesting about retirement and life changing events. My life changing event so far is retiring. Would not ever want to go back to working for a living.

Don, glad you got Seat Time. But you need to dress to keep warm.

RNG, may your friends RIP.

Drew, let the magic happen. :cloud9:

Eric, I have one of those bolt together fence stretchers some where in my collection of tools. Do not plan on putting up much fence any more. With all that weight on back of tractor. You should be able to get stretched tight.

Thomas, "Today was good day everything I touch I fix"

Wngsprd, wish we had less than $2 gas.

Prayers for all.

Good Morning All.
