It was 54°F her this morning and a bit foggy. Forecast is for 64°f this afternoon.

Spring must be close as, we've got dozens of robins hopping around the back yard this morning.

Maybe I should get the hummingbird feeder filled and out on back porch soon! Last year, I put it out mid year so ...... no clue when they might show up?

No great plans for today, maybe Daytona 500 later this afternoon.

Don, that's a well organized woodworking shop. Hope you enjoy your orientation. Start simple .... build your skills.

Buppies, I hope spring gets here that early, but it never does, the ocean sees to that. 38 now, low was 23, going to 46 later with rain tonight. Visited mom last night, took chicken to the ladies in her room, they alway like that.

I lost two friends recently, one back in December and one in late January, I found out about both the same day, both in their 80’s. One was an old school furniture dealer, sold it on payment plans and went around on Friday and collected payments. The other was at one time the local VW, Mazda dealer, he owned a large car wash complex and other business interests over the years. Both were good guys and did a lot of old fashioned handshake business. That day is gone.

7ºF was today’s low, 14ºF now, and ~30ºF expected later as well as some snow tonight - tomorrow AM. A rare all snow event here; maybe 3”. And another wintry mix Wednesday - Thursday with plowable snow changing over to a wintry mix.

Frank- It’s great to read that you and your wife were able to, healthy enough, and wanted to retire early and still be able to enjoy retirement.

It seems that a lot of us had a spousal primary care giver or were a spousal primary care giver during life changing events around the time of retirement. ….You just do what you have to do and try to do the right thing.- Drew

It seems that most of us have lost friends recently. Losing friends does put things in perspective. Makes temporary conditions like broken bones a mere blip on life’s radar.

Nice proactive day yesterday with hopes of same today. Some painting and some layout work. Double check today, some cutting and hopefully some assembly.

in warming up, will only go out one more time meeting fireman neighbor down at my tiller to make a plan for
elevating it while we replace the transmission and axles. I can't work on things that low to the ground any more, need to get them
elevated, so I salivate when I see some of your cool lifts.
My plan is to back it onto my rubber ramps which will get the one end a foot in the air and then use my HF crane to pick up the other end.
And then block it. One good thing about firemen, they understand cribbing.

32°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 39° today.

The snow stayed within predicted levels on Friday. We got maybe an inch-and-a-half here (3.8 cm for our friends outside the US). Left work around 1:30pm, about half an hour after the owner walked by and said, "You're the last one here. Go home whenever you want." The drive was slow, but not bad at all. It snowed most of the day and into the evening, but mostly just that light powdery stuff. Got the driveway in front of the garage and the deck cleared of Saturday morning, and sunshine took care of the rest through the course of the day. Another band passed through the area early this morning, but all we got from it was a little freezing rain, not even enough to cover anything.

Wife and I had a quick breakfast of hard boiled duck eggs and turkey bacon before she went out for a beauty appointment this morning and a visit with one of her cousins, and I ran to Tractor Supply in Carlyle to get chicken feed and bedding. They were out of the bedding we usually get, the larger chips. Ran (well, drove) across the highway to pick up some things at WallyWorld, then back home. Planning to spend the rest of the day in my studio.

Speaking of people who need to learn perspective ... the boy had yet another "incident" with his free Kia Sorento. While leaving for work at 6:30am, his roommate went out and started the Sorento for him to warm it up. The boy decided for whatever reason that he wasn't going to work that day, and went back to bed, with the car still running. When he got up around noon, it wouldn't start, and had a dead battery and a pool of coolant under the front end. He called his Mom in a panic, and she suggested that he get it towed to a shop to get it looked at. He did, and we all assumed the engine was toast. Got a call yesterday afternoon that it was ready to pick up; replaced a blown head gasket, two new radiator hoses, and flushed the cooling and oil systems. It supposedly runs fine now, but I'm unconvinced there isn't more damage somewhere. I guess time will tell.

Wishing you luck with your Vanagon problems, RNG. Intermittent stuff is the worst. I always hated those issues when I worked in electronics. Much easier to diagnose and fix something that's already fried to a crisp or blown itself to pieces.

Condolences to those who've lost friends.

Takamine makes nice guitars, Kyle. Did you break the original nut, or just decide to replace it with bone (always a great choice)?

We're planning to replace some old existing fencing and add some new in our pasture this Spring, Eric. It seems I finally convinced The Wife that a few cows would be much easier to tend than a small herd of goats.

Drew, maybe 35 years is enough time for someone to mature? I've seen some go either way. I think the best possible life partners are those who have similar ideals, goals, and patience enough to let the other have some self time. Hope you get the tiller repaired safely. I was able to till 2 rows deeply and 2 rows shallow in the garden this morning before church.

PJ, AFAICT, the Takemine nut is original stock. the split saddle was apparently lowered so far, that the longer one for the top 4 strings cracked/chipped. I've taken it apart and the underneath pickup piezo has some shim type components that are soldered to their wires, and then there are round piezo's under those. The problem is the depth of the slot is only about 3/32" (2.3mm) to the top of the bridge. Most acoustics seem to have a deeper slot. It only cost about $20 for the blanks, so if I screw up, it's not a life changing event. I really don't want to raise the action too much, it plays so nice right now, maybe just the slightest of buzz if you don't fret something good enough. I'm still just a beginner, but I've been reading up on it. As far as the car is concerned, I'd be worried too. Often times overheating involves warping the head.... Maybe they had it resurfaced. That being said, they put enough bolts thru them, and with a good gasket, the aluminum will conform usually when torqued down properly in a circular pattern beginning at the center.

Had some friends from my hometown show up at church. We had a nice visit. The music director had Japanese style curry chicken and rice to eat afterwards. Pretty yummy.

Need to get back out on the tiller and get some more done.

Need to make some time to get some shooting and target practice in one of these days.

Just got home. Got 5 miles from home. Bumper to bumper traffic took 45 minutes to get to next exit 2 miles away. Yes Irv, it was I-96. Stay home.

Well, that was some Daytona 500! We got back in from the errands and I turned it on just as the 18 car pile up happened. You would think the drivers would have been more careful after that, but 2 more crashes within a few laps? Made an interesting finish.

Well, I feel a little accomplished today, made the dump run without any high winds or incidents. I also came back from the dump without bringing anything back (what can I say, I like to repurpose stuff!), didn't see anything salvageable this time. Got our other errands done and on the way home ran into a good snow squall down in the mountain pass (canyon).

Snow showers due tonight, then more tommorow, and tomorrow night. Hope we don't get too much. Got everything needing to be done today. Tomorrow is just a Vet visit for the puppies 3rd series of vaccinations. They are about 15 miles away, I'm hoping the roads won't be bad.

Drew, I hope the tiller repair went OK.

Here is Drew talking about planting and his giant garden, I'm talking to the neighbor about snow removal with this coming storm....it's not fair! My conversation led to us talking about snowblowers and how mine grenaded the gearbox. I ended up selling it to him for $100. It will need a new gearbox at around $120, so thought it was a fair deal. New it would be around $800. I just didn't want to mess with it anymore!

PJ, we want to get my grandson an acoustic guitar for his birthday. He has been playing a very used borrowed guitar from a friend. Any hints for a good beginners guitar that isn't crazy expensive?
