Since my last post on 2/11, I think we have had two or three days without some amount of snow. I haven't gone anywhere in the PW. Every time I take the ATV down to get the mail - the county still hasn't plowed their road. What a mess - a foot of snow with ruts, grooves & tracks leading everywhere. I have no fear of my driving in the snow. It's that YAHOO who is on his first ride in the snow. We have plenty, over here on the DRY side, who become idiots when the snow falls.

However - every day, for an hour or more. Out there - learning, practicing, getting better. The electronics & features aren't such a mystery anymore.

I've become somewhat addicted to playing music while I learn the other features. It's kind of nice to be able to dial up - the Statlers, Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Hank Williams,Jr & Willie Nelson. There may even be some who remember - Peter, Paul & Mary( Puff the Magic Dragon ).

The GPS system was easy. It's made by Garmin. Just like the Garmin Nav V on my cycle or my hand held Garmin. I've got the new Apple iPhone XR paired up and can now make a hands free call using the buttons on the PW.

There just aren't a lot of NEW places to go and see in this weather. Even if the county has their roads plowed - the side roads to the "places of adventure" are still unplowed.

I have enough adventure learning all the new stuff on the PW and keeping my driveway plowed. Besides - none of the adventure is going anywhere. It will still be there when conditions improve.

BTW - I keep a Deltron Battery Tender on the PW. That way there is no need to start the truck as I play with all the do-dads.

I checked this evening - there is 17" to 18" of snow out in my yard.

About the same as we have here at the cottage near Algonquin Park, but fortunately the County plows the road at the end of our driveway regularly. Of course, that means big windrows at the end of the driveway, but my Kubota can handle that! Right now the rental property that is down the road a little piece has more snow on the driveway then it has had all winter, so finally the blower on the Kubota will see some serious action today!

Lou - I'm like a kid at Christmas. So many new things to open & learn to operate. The snow came off the carport stalls in one gigantic - WOOMPA. Now there is a three foot berm in front of all four stalls. Glad I back out of all the stalls. No need to worry about snow load for now. Besides, it's raining lightly again. Mother Nature is bound & determined to make a mess out of all this snow.

Check - there is nothing like a blower to cut a clear path and get that snow the heck out of the way. I used a blower on the driveway for 15 years. Then I got the Kubota M6040. It and the heavy rear blade can clear any berm. It took a good three hours, sometime four, to clear the yard, mile long driveway & mailbox area with the PTO mounted blower. I DON'T miss the stiff/sore neck & shoulders.

Around here everybody is more worried about keeping our only Ea/We corridor open - I-90. The county roads are about third or fourth down on their list.

That's OK. Around this time of year it's just best to snuggle down and wait for better weather. And now I have a new toy to play with.

My snowsled has the heated grips also. At the end of the day when I've soaked all of my gloves and am freezing my tail off on the way out of the woods, it's some nice to have that little bit of warmth. Sometimes the steam even starts rolling off my wet mittens.
I put heated grips on just about every sno-machine/4 wheeler/motorcycle I've owned...

I always use the "Hot Grip" brand, they hold up pretty good.

Yeah - it IS rather weird. It's an ancient Nordic rune. Part of the "bones & stones" the village magic man used.

Actually, I like the colorful little mushroom house best.

I pick an avatar not to represent anything in particular. The idea is easy post ID as I pan down thru all the pages on a thread.

Times like this it would be great to be retired with a warm hearth and plenty seasoned cord wood a the ready...

Times like this it would be great if Mother Nature would give us a break. It is and has been snowing like mad for the last four hours. You know what - if this stuff( beginning to look a lot like CRAP ) keeps up - - I'm going to have to bundle and plow again.

Again - it's almost white out conditions here. Exactly 25 miles due SW of Spokane. It's snowing so hard I can't see the far side of the little lake.

New Toy is right! Nothing like a new pick up truck to set your heart straight. And we drive three hours plus each way to the cottage quite a lot, and it is so much fun to drive it in the truck. We also have a 2010 pilot, but my wife asks for the truck each time! (She’s a good wife.)

Surprisingly, my neck did not really get sore this weekend, blowing out about 500 feet of driveway with the rear blower. I have fussed about that in the past, and of course we have had more than one discussion about front versus rear blowers here on TBN, but there is nothing like a blower to clear out a driveway that is in the trees when you have a good dump of snow.

My mile long driveway is about half wide open and half thru young pines. The young snow covered pines droop into the driveway. The pass to plow that side of the driveway is punctuated by the tractor brushing those trees and an almost continual snow dump. Right into my lap.

So I raise the grapple and the "dump" is onto the tractor hood. Not quite as bad. I keep telling myself - I'm going to thin those young pines. Well - they are still there. That tells me something. I'm not that forgetful - just not that energetic, this time of the year.

When I used the blower - the directed discharge would unburden those young trees. Just prior to my arrival.

One of these days I'm going to thin those young trees. It only represents about 150. Maybe soon............
