Probably double that for me on the tie. Don't ever plan to wear one ever again either.

My dress code is about the same as yours, except substitute sweatshirt for flannel. Only trouble is, now that I'm mostly retired I'm not wearing out clothes like I used to, so now the "grub" jeans/shirts are really bad, and my "good" ones are too nice to just wear around the house. There just isn't the constant supply of worn but still semi-presentable clothes anymore.

The few times that I wore a tie and jacket where whenever I flew to a destination.
From many business travels I discovered that that's how to get preferential treatment like upgrades etc.
More than a time or 2 a stewardess would bring me/us a bottle of wine only missing one drink left over from first class as well as first class meals.

Travel in sweats lugging 3 carry ons won't get U favors.

I've noticed the same... professional business attire often begets perks.

On the other hand if you are holding a First Class tickets and arrive in flip flops and sweats that works too.

Last time I flew on an airplane. Good Lord - it was 1968. Over half a century ago. I think Orville & Wilbur were at the controls.

Sometimes I do the South West shuffle from Oakland to SeaTac... with parking, waiting, car rental, etc... it is about 5-6 hours door to door flying or 12 hours driving and bringing what I want in the car...

The Business Attire seems to work best with International
carriers.

One time I just getting my boarding pass... and was called over to another window thinking there was a problem... the agent asked if I was traveling on business... I said yes but the first time on Lufthansa... he said the airline was comping me to Business Class... I said both ways and we had a laugh but it was very nice indeed!

Way off topic but my best flights were always Pan Am or Swiss.

Getting Older I do appreciate the upgrade but to cheap to pay for an upgrade where the difference easily covers my rental car.

I retired 15 years ago.....used to fly at least 30 weeks a year for over 10 years....when I retired I told the family...if I never get on a plane again...that would be fine with me...thus far....my theory is holding....haven't been on a plane for almost 16 years. People have said to me....you don't like to travel? I say...love to travel....love to hook up the trailer....pack up wife and dogs.....get in the truck and see the country. Life is good...especially with a new knee...new hip and a cooler full of beer. :drink:

I don't run anymore. The last time I did, I was nearing the end of a long afternoon walk with the wind at my back. The wind was so strong I had to fight it to keep from being blown forward. So I decided to jog the last 1/2 mile home, or at least part of it. That lasted for about 30 paces.

It was then that I decided I was a plow horse not a quarter horse.

We were able to retire early....right place...right time....moved out of the rat race....enjoying paradise....hope you are doing the same. :drink:

I have enjoyed a few 'comps' from my days of flying.

Once on Eastern they had overbooked and called for 10 volunteers to give up their seats in exchange for a return airfare anywhere in the system.
Was a Friday with wife and 2 kids so I immediately stood them up and fortunately the head stewardess was at my elbow.
Capt said OK we have enough but that stew insisted we were the first so they ended up giving out 14 passes.
We used them to vacation in the Virgin Islands.

Another super comp.
Driving in I hear on radio, join American airlines 'club' and we'll triple all your air miles for the entire year plus start U off with 3000.
I get to the office and get an urgent call to be in Dallas for next Mon AM for an emergency board meeting.
OK, I get that Airline frequent flier card and buy me a ticket.
Now I am a member of the board and we'll be meeting twice again this year.
At Xmas time along with the points/air mile summary they offer various rewards like upgrades, passes etc.
BUT for leaving a destination from outside the USA (I'm in Montreal,Canada) a return pass for 2 to Hawaii.
For that U needed 30,000 air miles and what with the sign up bonus and tripling of my flights that year I qualified.
Actually was 100 or so short but they graciously comped me those claiming they'd borrow them from the next flight.

Also a couple years ago at a dinner they passed around coupons for free vacation for 2 in Jamica.
This draw was a 'last man standing' with 10 tickets drawn.
I was the last name drawn!

Another, (but never used them) was return to Paris for 2 on Nationair.

Not so tolerant of BS anymore. Tend to call a spade a spade. You don't like to hear the truth - well, BS - the truth is the truth. Don't hold back so much anymore - - let being PC be for those who are PC - I'M NOT. ***** footing is for *******.
