Just purchased a grab link and want to mount it to the end of a 5/16" chain.

Grab Link - Imported - L2i

Obviously the grab link is made for a 3/8" chain, but from what I am told it
will work with 5/16" chain as well.

Would like to be able to remove it easily to be able to install it onto other 5/16"
chains, of various lengths.

Also has to be able to move/rotate easily within the new fastener that will be mounted to
the end of the chain.

Thanks in advance.

What do you want to do with it? If you want it on the end of a chain, why not use a regular chain grab hook? I've seen some rigging that used a grab link like the one in your picture when they wanted to connect a chain to a larger hook or pin.

That looks to me like you drop the chain through the big end and than pull it to the small side to hold. Here’s how I imagine you’d use it but I really don’t see the point. IMG_1525.JPGIMG_1526.JPG

Keyhole grab hooks are mainly used to shorten choker chains.

I will check out the crosby shackle idea.
Not sure if there is enough room inside it for the thick keyhole fastener to slide around to change ends from grab to slip?

You could use this ...

Load rating on a 5/16 like one above is pretty light (1760 lbs) compared to actual chain, so not good for actual stress of pull if load is large....

Or as mentioned above the "Crosby Shackle" if you want to have it as part of load bearing connection...

Some info on Crosby shackle ratings...

Shackles and Hooks Load Limits

What you use will depend if you use "connection" as load bearing or just a attaching device that only keeps grab link on end of chain so it does not get misplaced...

A good shackle will do the trick. You can buy gypo shackles anywhere and if you want the best , Crosby, et. al available at a rigging shop. The thing is, if you are using it as a choker, it should be noted that the stress on such a unit is when you jerk hard on it. If you set the choker and ease into the power mode you will be fine. One final note. This keyhole assembly is NOT FOR OVERHEAD applications. Don't even go there.
Keep it on the ground and play safe
