Blocking ads on TBN with Adware Plus...

/ Blocking ads on TBN with Adware Plus... #31
Wrong, wrong and wrong again. Adware Plus shows up in the Chrome extensions list as on. But, in fact the ONLY thing I could do is turn the radio button to off. There is nowhere I can adjust anything, and it doesn't appear at Chrome's header, so there is NOTHING to do to make it work, other than an uninstall then reinstall.
I've moved on to something else and ads are no longer a problem. I'm sure you know what making assumptions makes you.... ...jumble this....
Hmmm, you are assuming that the only option is to remove and re-install? As you said I'm sure you know what making assumptions makes you...
Might I suggest clicking on the "Extension Options" link from the Chrome extensions list? That will get you to the ABP Options menu.

You can also right click on the triple dot icon in the top right, then right click on the AdBlock Plus icon and click "Show in Toolbar" to have it show up again...

The title of the thread says "Blocking ads on TBN with Adware Plus...".

Your post says Adblock Plus

I'm guessing you mean Adblock Plus, not Adware Plus? :confused3:

I made an error in the title, mostly because someone here mentioned ABP, in another thread a few years back and I decided to try it, installed it and it ran until it didn't anymore, so I posed the question I wrote in the 1st post, seeking other's solutions/suggestions that they use for blocking ads. I missed that I wrote the title incorrectly, and it seems to bother you so much, so please change it to ABP in the title so no one else is egregiously misled. And I didn't expect to be vilified for wanting to block ads on this site. You, in particular chewed on me about the ads in my signature! Ha, look at your own before throwing mud at mine. You go further with videos and pics of your brand and include it in your Avatar too. BTW, I have no problem with you or anyone doing this. This is a way I am supporting TBN, by buying THOUSANDS of dollars of approved advertisers merchandise from Fite Rite and others named in my signature. My choice, and my RIGHT to buy from whom I choose, instead of buying like some sheep who if they see an ad they buy from it compulsively.

We get to post #11 before anyone attempts to answer your question with relative info, that being you're not running an Apple product, you are running Chrome, and you are running Adblock Plus.

'Relative info'? I suspect you mean: relevant info? I believe I said I was running ABP and Chrome in my 1st post of the thread; and if people have questions, 'friking ask. I can give all my laptop's specs in every post now, if it is a new requirement of TBN of which I am unaware?! Last I knew you were a moderator of TBN, so let me know if I'm wrong about that? Wouldn't your time be better spent if you were keeping rude and insulting/harassing posts and such off TBN, like #18 when the poster implies I'm 'stupid' because I don't know all aspects of ABP? BTW, stupid is where one maybe can't learn, (because of brain damage, etc.), whereas ignorant is a condition everyone has to some greater or lesser degree because no one knows everything about every topic known on Earth, and they can choose to learn, given the opportunity.

Post #16 you say you have solved the issue, but you don't mention how you've done that. It would be nice to share the info with the folks that tried to help you, and for future people looking for a solution to that same problem. ;)

Yeah it might be nice to do a lot of things, but I'm not inclined to do so, especially for the flack I took for posting this thread. TBN has become, more and more posters hammering on an OP for any reason that comes to mind, even if it contributes NOTHING to a thread, and in fact, IMO it is the rule more often than not. I'm sick of it, and I know many others are too- yet they feel powerless to get things back on track. I, on the other hand am not afraid to speak out against the darkness of very angry members; and let TBN know that those who regularly use this site like it a lot; yet are way disappointed with what it's become. I used to write in the 'friendly politics' forum, but long ago gave up doing so- because there is no decorum, no civility and it's just angry 'know it alls' who blast everyone else until they leave or give up. It's become unfriendly for a very long time now, years in fact.

FWIW I feel that part of TBN should be dropped permanently.

Seems Muhammed had to put a strongly worded ultimatum out to those who were involved in that forum; straighten up or be banned forever, no questions asked. I for one support that decision. And so I protest my treatment in this thread, and how it's been handled.

Post 14 precisely details the answer to remove the "unintrusive ads" at the top . I implemented it and got rid of them. Which was the exact question CM asked, but apparently glossed over. It looks like I am the only one that benefited from this thread. Woo Hoo for me.

I did not gloss over anything- read what I wrote above. And you don't know what I'm thinking, so refrain from suggesting you do. BTW, I benefited from select poster's answers which were what I was seeking- after filtering all the background noise out- for which there was way too much of same.

Your quoting something I said out of context. I replied to page 2, post # 18 because the poster is wrong, wrong... about what she/he posted about what I did to solve ABP's issues on my laptop. AND implying I was stupid should have been removed, because if anything is stupid is her/his assumption that I'm stupid and her/his arrogance to suggest he knows what I did to solve the ABP not working.

Facts are it disappeared from my laptop, suddenly and for no reason. When I got around to it, I decided to post on TBN to get members thoughts, suggestions, and/or to list similar issues they might have had. I didn't want to spend time studying the program specifics, I sought to find out how to fix it, find something more reliable or whatever. I had spent a reasonable amount of my valuable time to find a fix, but since the icon at the Chrome page header and at the taskbar had gone away, and most recently so had my entire Office Suite, which I had to do a full reinstall of, based on several 'watchdog violation errors' on my win 10 laptop I chose to shortcut to where I had first learned of ABP, right here on TBN.
When I looked at what you posted above- I realize the only thing I missed was when looking at the dropdown from the 3 dots at Chrome's header was the 'show in toolbar' line. It's also possible I missed it because it wasn't there when I was looking for the icon- I can't know, because I didn't see it there, and it's STILL not present. But I'm no longer concerned, I've eliminated the need for ABP, thus solving whatever issues it had, then, now, and forever.

And let's recognise with all the issues brought to my attention, why would I want to get ABP to work again. And as I think back Chrome had reported an extension as interfering with it's operation, and I deleted it- don't remember the extension, but I know ABP had failed long before, months at a minimum.

Lastly, I was NEVER assuming the only option was to remove/reinstall; especially because I knew that reinstalling, possibly a 'dirty install' could cause more issues than leaving it alone- I chose to seek out other's opinions Prior to doing ANYTHING.

To me the term I used "glossed over" means to me you didn't see the explanation in post 14 or didn't understand it or didn't read it. In any case it solves the EXACT problem you stated, and I was able to utilize the "fix" in a few seconds. No, I don't know what you are thinking, and never said I did. But the good news is that the fix was well stated, and it sure helped me!.. Woo Hoo for me.. :)

I saw post # 14, as well as all the others. I wondered if he meant everytime ABP or Chrome, and settled on ABP regarding every time it updates there are issues. I understood what he said, but could not implement it because what he said to do was not available on my laptop, and I had chosen a different path of resolution.

Glad it worked for you. I didn't do this thread to help others, necessarily, but if posters/readers gained from it- good for them/ you, 'cause it's all about you- right? So I didn't gloss over anything, wrong, wrong, I saw it, read and understood it, just chose to not utilize etc. See the difference? You WERE assuming non facts, and guessing at what I had done re: post #14.

We get to post #11 before anyone attempts to answer your question with relative info, that being you're not running an Apple product, you are running Chrome, and you are running Adblock Plus.

What I meant by that is you asked a very specific question, and every reply up to post 11 was about something else, not specific to your question. Different browsers. Different ad blockers. Different platforms, etc.... while they were being kind or comisserating with you, they weren't answering your question up to that point.

I meant that with all sincerity. Many times we see people ask questions, get lots of suggestions, and then never hear the outcome. It would be nice to know what worked to resolve the issue.

As far as the friendly politics forum goes, I suspected what would be said in that forum, and never asked for access to it for just that reason. Did you really think it would go well in there? I didn't. So I won't even take a peek. ;)
