So my BX2380 will be getting delivered tomorrow and just went on to the kubota website to look at something and noticed that the engine horsepower ratings are now lower than what I have listed in my brochure. The 1880 is listed as 16.6, the 2380 at 21.6, and the 2680 at 24.8. Does anyone know if there's any truth to this or just an error of some sort?

delete the "new_" and the old brochure turns up with the old ratings clearly listed.

Both claim the rating was obtained using SAE J1995. Something's funky.

I have no idea as to what prompted the change or why they're being sly about it.
I noticed that with the "new" as well. I was just looking something up and didnt have my brochure with me and noticed the change and thought what the heck is going on. It even says it on the website when you're going to check out the bx series. It says 16.6-24.8 hp

All the BXs will lose traction or turn over before they run out of HP. Weight of tractors and implements along with ground clearance are the primary factors to consider. The HP and size mowing deck may be a consideration but I doubt very much. Also HP and size of bush hog/rotary mower and speed to cut might make a slight difference but these are not usually BX issues.

PTO HP didn't change. I'm just curious as to what prompted a 1.4HP downgrade of gross engine HP on the entire line except the 2680, which only suffered a 0.7HP downgrade.

Did Kubota fluff the numbers to make the model naming work and get caught? Someone out there is petty enough to sue over 1.4HP, even the kind that doesn't matter, I'm sure.

Did something happen with emissions that caused them to downrate the engines to burn cleaner? Unlikely, since PTO HP didn't change.

Were their initial test results flawed for some reason? You'd think that would have been worthy of a press release, instead of this quiet respec.

I'm in it more for the mystery than anything else. I'd love to have a little BX for the smaller yard tasks. Can't afford one and my "big" tractor right now. So I have no skin in this.

That's what I'm saying. 1.4 horsepower isnt necessarily a big difference but it's not something that's small either when they name the tractor a 2380 and it's not even 22 horspower. It's more of why are they trying to slide this in there like that when nothing else spec wise has changed

It gets better! I was poking around the BX part of the site, and the 1880 is now the 1880V in the build and price tool. As of time of writing all other model numbers seem unchanged, and the "V" only appears in the sidebar that lists your selections.

They've also done something funky to the BX23S's build page. All the non backhoe options are gone, and I think there's an extra "R" mixed in with the naming, but that model's name has always been alphabet soup, so I'm not sure.

'V' means a valve is part of the tractor, that's a normal model code. not new. All BX23's have alway had backhoes. There has never been a non-backhoe version. R is the tire that ships on the tractor.

OK. So what's the story on the engine power change? Inquiring minds want to know.
