About 40 minutes away from us we have a raceway that hosts several big events one of which is the superbikes, when this is on there are several bikers who like to show how they can do it too on the highway and highway patrol are waiting for them, last year they clocked one bike at 285 kmh (about 177mph), several cars at high speed too.
The air ambulance is kept busy too with those who are not as good as they thought they were.
Speed limit here is 100kph and 110kph on some freeways, Northern Territory used to be open but don't know ifit still is but there is a lot of road between nothing up there.

It probably isn't quite as insane on a wide-open highway out in Texas where you can see what's coming for the next 50 miles...
I still wouldn't go that fast, but to each their own.

Maybe not, but just imagine hitting a pothole at that speed!
I know someone who was riding a motorbike at high speed in a sparsely populated neighborhood around corners. He didn't check road conditions first and there was gravel on the road. He managed to get thru that without any broken body parts, the bike required major repairs.

Well, After visiting Texas a few times. I can say the speed limit on the interstates are simply a suggestion. The speed limit is 70-75 and you'll get run over if you are going 70-75

I find this amusing. The fastest speeders caught in Texas:

#1 a sport bike @ 156MPH
#2 a Ford F150 @ 150MPH
#3 another sport bike @ 145MPH

Fastest defined as largest amount over speed limit, not highest speed. Most 600痴 will do 170 and most liter sport bikes will do close to 200. Our six cyclinder Subaru wagon will do 145, most German luxury cars sod in the US will do over 150.

Ford governs their trucks to something like 112. If it was based on the skill level and level of driving involvement of the average pickup driver it would be 55....

I remember reading some years ago that a BMW 'M' series was governed to a speed I would never wish to attain, but think of the speed an aircraft is travelling at when it touches down, and higher when it takes off.

It is so tempting as so. easy todays hot cars, they really handle great, you don't even notice. With my new GT350 I can pass two cars and be doing over 120 before I get back in my lane and find myself looking for empty winding roads but I make two passes before I turn on track mode. Don't want any driveways, or critters wandering out. Open the exhaust on. first pass to scare critters off. Nothing like. hearing that Voodoo engine revving up to 8000 rpm with the pipes open. Older the boy the more expensive the toys. I can't imagine the HEMI with 1000hp on pump gas, I've only got 526

I'd be more interested in seeing a Falcon XA/XB at speed than a bike...One of my dream cars... But only seen them in pictures and Youtube. A handful have been imported to the States, but out of my budget :-(

Most German cars are not governed.

But by agreement, they only list top speed as 250kmh/155mph.
