Smart battery chargers with reconditioning modes

That link is showing me $159.99 with free shipping. That's about as good a price as I've seen on them. Northern Tool also sells them - for the same price & with free shipping if you are an Advantage member. It's been a couple of weeks and I can definitively say in my case a block of lead in a 9 year old battery cannot be brought back from the dead... at least for starting purposes... battery was in a parked car for over a year...

The charger went through all of it's permutations… but the capacity was never anywhere close to being restored...

I have used it on other batteries and with success but they had at least some juice left even if the dome light was dim...

Some times they are just too far gone to resurrect. Especially if they have a shorted cell, it's highly unlikely you'll be able to revive it.

No shorted cell indicated on charger diagnostics... I did have to trick charger into charging to start by placing another battery in parallel

Can't win 'em all...... you're in a mild climate, so it's less critical, but for something that has to start, around here 10 years is an outer limit....

It was an extreme test...

So far the new charger has been charging something since the day it arrived... another car with a dead battery... stone dead recovered nicely... 6 year old battery.

Have it on the van which may sit a few weeks at a time... it is hard an batteries with the alarm system and dual battery hook up...

I'm in the dunce corner for leaving my nice expensive Battery Tender smart charger out in the rain while
charging the battery in my trailer. Geez, over an inch of rain, and it won't charge any more. Held the reset down multiple times for five seconds, did every reboot I could think of and nothing. Case was face up, but clearly isn't watertight. All the lights come on but it won't show that it's charging. A hundred bucks plus down the drain.

So....will be buying another one today.
