Now you are getting older - what don't you do?

Good info. Thanks.

It’s covered by Health Care in Canada. They usually do one eye then the other in two weeks in case they screw up.

We do hundreds a month...

Most though opt for vision correction via specialty lenses which can add up.

One of the patients few down from Canada last year and we had a few minutes to converse… I asked if this procedure is covered in Canada... long story short is he did not want to wait the 9 months and he also wanted correction which isn't covered so he did a Medical Holiday to California...

It is reassuring when patients come back after the first procedure... and just about all do.

For some it is almost a religious experience... they could no longer live alone or drive etc... vision correction gave them their life back...

For others it was necessary for employment or they just wanted to be able to see the alarm clock without glasses.

The technology keeps improving and the costs have dropped or not increased.

I opted to NOT wait to have it done in the hospital for free. I had it done in the surgeon’s office and the procedure was partially covered.

Any time I don’t have to step foot in a hospital is a good thing. No offense. Lol

Yes, minimal as yet but they've started. I will miss reading the most.

I had cataract surgery at 52. I did not opt for the “no more glasses forever” because it was $1700 per eye and not covered by insurance. If I could go back and change my decision, I would. I can see better at night, but I no longer can read for more than a short period. After five years I hate all the fuss with glasses breaking, stretching, wiping, and falling off my face. I was sized by my eye doctor but they are purely a nuisance. I use a magnifying glass to read really small print like on bottles.

Oddly enough, there was a sign in my eye surgeons office. It said, “4 million Americans will need cataract surgery before age 60.” I thought it was a lot but then realized that was less than 1% of the US population.

I ran until I was 51 years old. Then I stupidly tried kickboxing. Now I can’t run or kickbox again after tearing up both knees without even knowing it until it was too late.

It seems as though the insurance companies would spring for the vision corrections instead of paying for a lifetime of eye exams and glasses. I see nothing vain in wanting to see better and the insurance companies would benefit in the long run.

Great thread.
76 and don't get as much done in a day as I did a few years ago. That's OKAY. I'm retired and have lots of time to get it done.

Good thread, just came across it.

At 56 and retired I can still do anything I want. I know my reaction time has slowed so I take that into consideration when riding my sled/Harley. I did break my back about 15 years ago while on my sled. It wasn't bad for years but now I have some back/leg pain. Some things hurt while I'm doing it but I work around the pain. Not willing to take pain pills, don't want to blow my retirement being addicted. All in all still happy and can do what needs to be done. I still split my firewood with an axe, but a splitter is looking better all the time.

The list of things that I don't/can't do has gotten longer since I turned 70. Now at 75 that list took a big jump about 6 weeks ago when I fell on some black ice in the grocery store parking lot and broke my left hip. Hopefully I will be able to get back to somewhere near normal over the next 6 months or so. For now it is turning out to be a big PITA in more ways than one.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you heal quickly. We have the black-ice potential for 6 months of the year and it still sneaks up on you when you least expect it. It doesn't matter how many pair of ice-grippers I buy for my shoes if I never put them on.
