What a derailment this has become. Think I'll call Zerk and see if he'll give $150 for my "pile of mixed wood mostly round" measuring 50' x 5' x 16". LOL. I'm out.

And that is what grates on the professionals. It IS 1/3 cord so why in the **** not call it a 3rd of a cord. And there are long arguments on the net about jus how muc is a face cord. Most agree it has an 8x4' 'face' but it doesn't have to be only 16" long and many will claim the length has to be other than 16" That is why there are standard, legal definitions of weights and measures.

A face cord is a third. Why does it matter if you use a term or a fraction? With money we can call it a quarter or 25 cents, or 2 bits. Can call something 32 ounces or a quart.

We have terms for something, as long as both agree what the terms, does it matter if you use them?

My choice. I am big on that. I don't need the government to hold my hand.

I get the point of not screwing people. But do we need weights and measure department on guys selling firewood? Maybe at some size of business. ut roadside fruit stand wants to sell container for a set amount of money, I don't really care.

A gas station is usually a big operation. They are declaring it down to the 1/10, and I can't see it.

The one that got me here was the guy not selling a full cord, but he was also cheaper, another time we discussed. So what?

A face cord is a 2 dimensional measurement. Whether it's 18,16,15, 12, or even random lengths deep; it's still a face cord. As I have pointed out several times in this and other threads; the reason that weights and measures gets involved is because firewood is the most common complaint about inaccurate loads. In this state it's also the only thing which can be bought and/or sold without a wood scaler's license.

Not it is 3 demensional. length x width to height. Right? We define a cord, a face cord is a 1/3 of that.

You define it that way. Not everybody else. There is no true 3 dimensional definition. That's why it's not legal to sell that way in many states.

It is a 1/3 of a cord. We define length x width x height for a cord. I am not seeing the problem. Is there some round off issues? Oh well.

Again if the government is telling you can't use a term, it is to much government. If you accept it, you are part of the problem.

The question should be, what can we do to get better schools down there, so they can handle fractions.
