Walk the plank mouse trap

No bait is necessary, they just love the shape of the opening and go in,,

In the summer, I will put some Cheerios in the mechanism side of the trap,, (no mice can get in the mechanism side)

I put one in the garden one summer, mice were taking the corn seeds as fast as I planted it.
The trap was pretty rusty after I forgot it out there for a couple months.

The mice think the spring shaped tube is an escape,, they just climb up,,, then jump.
For the trap in my shed, I replaced one quart jar with a 5 foot length of PVC pipe, that is capped at the bottom,,
The mice just dive in the pipe,,
I only empty that monthly,, there is no smell,,, except when you are emptying it,,,

DUMP ,,,, AND RUN!!!

I think I'm going to order one of these. Seems strange that they would just come across and explore it for no good reason other than it's there. But if it works well without baiting, all I have to do is set it up and occasionally dump the jar, then add some more water.....I like how simple that sounds.

Wonder if lizards will be in it too? I have way more of those than mice. I don't mind the lizards - at least they're eating bugs and not tearing up my stuff. They probably attract snakes same way mice do? Dunno - would assume snakes like lizard meat....

Now if only they made a trap I could stick near my front door to capture all the AT&T salesmen who think "no soliciting" sign doesn't apply to them and pounding on a front door like they're the police is a good way to sell their service.....I probably don't have a big enough jar.....

Just look up and down the list on this here Rural Living forum to find the thread about Septic tanks... :D

I have used the KetchAll on and off for at least twenty years,, I have lizards also,, this trap has never caught one lizard,,
I have only caught mice,, never a vole, or a chipmunk either,,,
I have caught a few voles in one section of my shed,,, using a regular snap trap.
The only way I have ever caught a chipmunk was the smallest size Hav-A-Hart trap,,#1020

Last fall I put a bucket trap in the crawl space and had not thought much about it. The last few days my wife has been saying she noticed a smell in the house. Tonight we came back from dinner and I told her I smell something too. ...Light bulb goes on...

I did not say a word and ..... off to the crawl space with nitrile gloves and head lamp and what do I find but a horrible smell .... it was high tide so I buried 7 mice at sea... actually dumped the bucket off the top of the bulkhead and counted them as they floated away. The weather has warmed and the smell was BAD. I need to refill the trap in the morning once the smell down there clears.

Sounds exactly what I would do... set something and forget it and then pay for it later in some way!

Seems as though the (old/used?) anti-freeze idea would eliminate the smell issue.
I am going to try that.

It works. This is the voice of experience. Just make sure that animals you don't want harmed by antifreeze can't access it.

Right. It would work well for the intended purpose but in my case I could not dump the bucket in the saltwater. At least they go cleanly into the food chain this way. I will start checking it weekly after that experience. Geez that was a horrible smell. :talktothehand: :mouse:

I had to switch browsers to duck duck go. Chrome kept tipping my wife off to what new toys I was looking at by the ads that were popping up. Lol.

This is one reason why I run an ad blocker on my browser.

I have given up on ALL mouse traps,, except the KNESS KetchAll

One time, I posted pics of the one night catch in this trap,, everyone asked that I not post those pics again,,,

Yes, I have a "walk the plank",, it never gets a change to operate,, the mice just seem to love going in the Kness,,,

My mouse population is almost zero around my home after using this thing for two winters,,,

Very good idea. I have two traps like that only without the quart jar and hose. They canch a few mice but then they try crawing through the paddle and that jams it up so it stops working. Just curious, what kind and size of hose is that. Either way I like that idea.

I haven't been successful with the walk the plank thing outside. I did take out a half dozen with some quick set drywall mud powder in the bottom of cereal box mixed with the old cereal. These buggers are thinking that the chicken coop is their new home. We changed the feed system, took out most of the litter. I'd like to pop them with a pellet gun, but don't want the hens to eat the lead. Any ideas?

The plank trap I built seems to work. I sent it to my son because I have a mouser cat. Recommend putting the dab of peanut butter on the under side of the plank. If pizz ants become a problem cleaning the platter, a dusting of 7 repellent around the bucket will solve that problem.

The underside may work better when outside too. Thanks for the tip. I was a smart guy and made a woven mesh trap door for the bottom of the coop at night. Worked great for a night. Then they realized the coop construction crew (me) built the front with 1" cage wire. Gives them a nice massage as they pass though...:duh:

If I ever build another - walk the plank - I'll construct it with a bait receiver on the bottom of the plank out at the end to bait with Pecan, my preferred bait for snap traps.

From all my results and internet suggestions PB is the bait of choice!
Any 5 gal pail that has easy access (nothing elaborate) with PB at the bottom will work.

Hey this is from a 20 year mouser! LOL.

If it was an internet suggestion it must be true. Reminds me of the dawn detergent thing.

The walk the plank trap REALLY works. I've caught over 30 so far. I've tried many different types of traps and the walk the plank is by far the most effective.
