Tractor
755
Hello Friends..

Please excuse any stupid thing I might say.. this is my first Tractor, I am a Law Enforcement Officer and NO WHERE NEAR MECHANICALLY INCLINED... I will Apologize up front.

I Bought a JD 755 from a Farmer in Indiana.. the wiring has been "Hoosier Rigged" and I have wires that used to be connected to things that are no longer connected to anything. Despite the wire that runs from somewhere to the Fuel Solenoid being lose (I replaced it) it still ran well.

I had an issue with Safety Button under the newly replaced seat being taped down.. I bought a new button and replaced it.
The Safety rod that runs down under the seat has been a total pain, I had to rig it down to be able to use my tractor..
Safety "things" are great when they work.

The Hydrostatic Foot Controls... When I push it down...Sometimes It would crawl or it would jump quickly. I replaced the Seat Safety switch.. it hasn't helped much.

Now... For my big issue. I was asked to help a friend and I tried to start it in nearly freezing temps.. IT Would NOT start. And has not started since.

It will turn over and try to spark... but, nothing.

I took the Fuel Solenoid off and cleaned it up real good, I fixed the bad wire that comes across the top of the engine. No Luck.
I Got a NEW fuel filter, replaced it, cleaned the Bowl and bled out the lines.. NO LUCK.
I Ordered a new Fuel Pump.. "Tidied" up the other wires while I was waiting for Amazon to get it to me.. I installed it and NO LUCK.
Now, I am thinking about ordering New Glow plugs...
What else should I look at.

It does not appear like it was taken very good care of.. and I am thinking it might have been rolled.
the seat attachment was welded and obviously had been bent up. the Roll Bars were cut Off.

I'm not a mechanic but, I am a pretty good detective and I think someone was not telling me the whole story on this Tractor.

The Battery is new, They wired a Push Button Starter on it. You Turn the key, and then Push Start the button.
I have been attaching it to my F150 via Jumper Cables to make sure it was getting as much power as it could need.

I will try to add some photos.

I'm about to Give up and trade it for a Kabota.. Unless I can get it fixed.

Thanks..

First I would make sure you are getting fuel to you're injection pump, remove the fuel line to it and activate the fuel pump with the switch. If you do remove the glow plugs you can leave them hooked to power and ground them and activate them to visually see if they get red hot.

If you don't have a good flow of fuel to the pump, there could be a blockage inside the tank.

:welcome: to TBN

Don't beat yourself up with this.. like you are not much different than us.. all learning :)

Couple directions to go.. one is take to a Deere dealer and have them go through it.. but at a price for their labor but a fewer hours spent "wild goose chasing".

The other is to get yourself a copy of the service tech manual that has the wiring diagrams, etc. that you can systematically chase down the several problems that you state.. with so many, hard to put a finger on what to suggest first.

As for the Kubota, you could end up with the same or similar situation as you have now.. just a different color scheme. ;)

Don't despair, lots of help here.. and lots of reading up on threads in the archives, and there is a listing of some similar ones at the bottom of this page.

Keep coming with questions..

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Well, firstly I don't reckon that you 'got rolled'... you bought an (at least) 20 year old tractor (unknown hours on it) with the intention of fixing it up. I'd even hazard a guess that an Owner Manual didn't come with it. The price you payed is not stated. You freely admit that you're not mechanically inclined or experienced (that's OK, neither am I) but are willing to learn.

So now you're learning. :)

Do you have a local JD Dealership? (you don't state where in the world you are... only that the 755 is from Indiana) The Service/Parts Department should be able to provide you with (free), specific, wiring/parts diagrams for your tractor. I know that I get free advice from my Dealership mechanics... I just have to ask. (But that is my dealership/situation)

You say that you've cleaned out the Fuel Bowl... why? Was there visible/physical debris or a 'green tinge' in it?
Have you put an inspection camera down into the fuel tank? You may have a biological growth at the bottom (looks like fairy-floss mixed with phlegm) with is blocking the flow of diesel to the fuel system.

I'm sure that others will be along to ask more questions.

Enjoy the site... we'll help where we can.

:)laughing: Great, as soon as I post I see that beenthere has already touched on a lot of my points.)

You all are great..
Next Question..
Where do you find VIN numbers on these tractors.
I tried google and only come up with the serial numbers.

I have a vin number on the top of the engine and the last few numbers have been ground off.
There was no way it was accidentally ground off.
I遏・ going to try to include photo.

I can稚 figure out how to add a photo..

Tractors don't have a VIN, the serial number is unique enough.

The engine will have a number too, which will be different... usually due to a different manufacturer. My 4105 has a YANMAR donk, my D110 has a B&S, etc...

Welcome to TBN
IMHO VIN & serial number are one in the same but I guess terminology is different down under in Australia. VIN is located below the rear pto shaft. I agree that you should acquire a JD tech manual & repair wiring

I am guessing that spark is start,
this is a diesel, correct.

fuel pump was a lift pump, how have you been bleeding the system?
just to the filter or to the injector pump?
have you loosened the injector lines at the injectors and tried bleeding to that point?
loosening the injector lines and cranking it over till fuel leaks out.
if you loosen the fuel lines at the injectors do you get fuel at that point?
are you getting power to your glow plugs?
with the wiring mess that you are describing I would doubt that.
If you are getting fuel to the injectors and power to the glow plugs it should start.

Where are you located? If it's really cold, you'll need the glow plugs to get the fuel hot enough to fire, but when the temps are moderate, it should fire even with bad glow plugs. The foot pedals have a safety switch which will prevent starting unless they are in "neutral," but that stops it from cranking, so you're good there. I agree with LouNY, if you have fuel and it's cranking, it should start (Diesels are simple)...
1) Make sure you have power to the glow plugs (turn the key and the glow plug indicator should light up and then put a test light on one of the wires)... if you have power, then that part of the wiring is ok.
2) Check the glow plugs following atsah's instructions above
3) Make sure you're pumping fuel
4) Bleed to fuel system (I've attached the instructions from the manual)

Don't give up... you'll get it.
