Hi,

I'm new to the forum and just bought an LS LM125 subcompact tractor. My dealer is offering me a 48" chain driven tiller for 1,130.00. The price is right but the tiller looks to be light at 385lbs and only has a depth of 3-4." I'm buying the tiller to till a 1000 sq ft garden a couple of times a year and to do work around the house. I mostly want to plant vegetables and be able to till the ground for landscaping. I don't want to spend over a 1k to find out I bought a tiller that will not do the job. Should I spend more money and get a Titan or other brand? I could afford a few hundred more. Thanks

The brand it Powerline. I'm wondering if this is for planting grass since the depth is only 3-4"

My dealer sold me a 48" Taylor Pittsburgh Gear Drive for $1500 for the same tractor you have.

Taylor Pittsburgh

That is definitely a beefier unit. How do you like it and would you buy it again? I made the deal today for the 125 but am thinking to call him tomorrow to upgrade the tiller. Yours is almost twice the weight and will till to 8". The extra weight should help it dig in. Can you set the depth or do you do that with the hitch height? Is it hard to get on and off? How do you like your 125? Thanks

Are there any other brands I should consider in the 1500.00 price range?

See if the dealer will let you demo the tiller. You will know right away if it will do what you want it to. I have a King Kutter II tiller which I love. It turns raw field into garden plot in a couple of passes. Mine is 5' and weighs 690 lbs so it is plenty heavy duty. The 4 footer is 580 lbs and is $1600.

I'm buying the tractor out of state and they are shipping it so while that makes a lot of sense I can't do it. I think I'll cancel the tiller for now and just buy it locally unless he can get me a deal on a better tiller. The King Kutter is a nice tiller from what I've been reading and seeing on youtube. Thanks

Can't swear, but I think the King Kutter is made by TB. If so it would be the same one I have. At 600 pounds, it's a bear to install. Removal is a lot easier. You'll probably have to cut the PTO shaft that comes with it, but instructions are included. If you have an inklings of going with a quick hitch adapter, wait until you get it before cutting the shaft. The length will be different.

I haven't used mine a lot yet due to the wet ground. I cut a small section last fall without any trouble though. Depth is mostly controlled by 3pt height.

Unfortunately your profile does not show where you are located.

DO NOT BUY DARRELL HARP......ANYTHING !!!

I had a NEW Darrel Harp cultivator shipped from a Tennessee tractor/implement dealer (can't remember the name).
Dealer claimed Darrell Harp Equipment was decent stuff.
Hogwash!

The Darrell Harp cultivator was actually made in India, and is JUNK !!

I have a 5' King Kutter tiller.
It is built like a tank, and runs like a Swiss watch.

Thanks for the heads up. I just fixed my profile. I'm in NC. I cancelled the tiller. It is way too light and no depth adjustment, etc. Looks like crap. We are moving in July 1st so no sure I'll be planting anything. I'll have to see what I can plant that time of year.
