Yeah - I really don't know what it is with some people. Pretty strong convictions to come up and start ragging on a total stranger. At the gas station - total strangers will come up and ask - "what kind of mileage do you get with that huge rig?".

I just smile - pat the bed of the rig - look them right in the eye and say - "I'm getting five miles per gallon". I just love the shocked look of horror on their faces.

I had to go into town today - new microwave oven. In the parking lot of Bed, Bath & Beyond. I guy came over and began giving me a bad time about going out and tearing up the country with my big truck and its big tires. An obvious "greenie" tree hugger.

I don't think he believed me when I told him it was just a short muddy stretch in my driveway.

Whatever.............

Good thing the new microwave came in a strong box. I had to stand on the box so I could get up on the tailgate and move the Cargo Management divider further forward. I definitely have to find that small folding plastic step stool or buy a new one.

I am vertically challenged and keep one of those folding steps under the back seat of my truck. It works great. I'm sorta use to the stares I get when I use it. My 07 2500HD sits up high and it is not as high as yours. Trucks today are not made for short folk.

I didn't realize that, I too, was vertically challenged - until I bought the BMW R1200 GSA. No step ladder here. Instead - a special pair of boots with ultra thick soles. Had to go into Spokane - a custom boot maker. I told this fellow - "these boots had better not make me look like Elton John". He could not contain himself - he laughed right out loud and said - "don't worry, that will never happen".

Fortunately, unless I specifically mention these boots - nobody ever notices the custom modifications.

As far as the Taco Wagon - the second time I "fell" out of the truck - I realized I needed side steps. No matter how hard I tried - hold onto the grab handle at the door and lower myself - I CAN NOT touch the ground. Let go of the grab handle and try to gracefully fall the remainder of the distance.

This is what a 28" inseam leaves you with.........

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the BedStep works great and is always there when you need it:

I also am vertically challenged, now down to 5'6" and need something to step on to get into the bed. If you leave the tailgate up, you can grab the top of it, step on the BedStep, put the right foot in the center of the bumper, then left foot on top of the bumper and step over the tailgate:

A tree hugger asking people about their truck use would last about a 1/2 a day around here before some hillbilly would "take care" of him.

I might go that route Xfaxman. The local supplier is "pretty sure" a $260 Bedstep would fit on the Taco Wagon. I KNOW that a $25 step stool will work. I DO like the way that Bedstep fold up and out of the way. And it's always right there. As it now stands - I know that somewhere I still have a plastic step stool - but only God know where I've got it stored. I have to go in to the beeg city next week. I will do some serious checking with the supplier.

Strange isn't it. When I was in college I was 5' 10". Now I'm 5' 8" but my feet are big and look like Hobbit feet. But I'm bigger around - so that offsets it all.

James - well, I've met a couple "dudes" that are prime for relocation to your neck of the woods.

Yeah, we don't get much of that around here either. I haven't conducted a survey, but I'd say a full 30% of the vehicles in my area are pickups and heavier trucks. If I didn't know better, I would say that the economy here depended upon landscaping.

They move up here, and all that we hear is " if this was New Jersey..."
I worked briefly with a woman who used to brag "we like to say the natives have gone feral"... then couldn't figure out why they didn't accept her.
