The BedStep will help. It's still a pretty good "reach" up to the deployed BedStep - 24". Nothing like the height - 42" up to the open tailgate.

Interesting about your BedStep. Mine is 19" off the ground when lowered. All your other measurements lined up with my 2500 so I wonder why this one is different?

I've got it installed correctly. Folded up it's about 3/8" from touching the bumper. I may find that a folding plastic step stool is still helpful. Maybe the newer models have shorter arms - ??

Oosik, Yes, reading your post I thought it may help in your situation. So far I see that it seems to work as they claim. I intend putting a second coat on soon as some suggest. Being in a high UV area it can only help protect the paint from the sun as well. It seems you can use it on your dash as well. I will be trying that in the near future. A gallon seems cheap enough. I just bought the small spray bottle to check it out but will get a gallon next time.

Thanks Alien. Sooner or later, I too will be in a high UV area. Just as soon as it quits raining. Every night and a lot of the days for the past two weeks.

Being Norwegian, I guess I shouldn't *****. I sunburn very easily. But all this rain - I'm beginning to "prune up".

I'm sure you did install it correctly. Maybe things have changed. But is there a chance you mis-measured it? Looking at your picture it doesn't look like 24" to the step and 36" to the bumper. Looks closer to how mine looks. Not that it matters. It is what it is. It will be way better for you than the bumper or tailgate no matter what.

OK Out on the driveway - hard, flat & level. Ground to deployed step - 23". Ground to bumper - 35". Ground to open tail gate - 41".

For sure, the step makes it "possible". Without the step - no way. My upper body just can't overcome the weight of my "lower body". I just can't lean far enough over the open tail gate to roll up on the tail gate. And there is nothing in the bed to grab on to and pull.

I could always put my Little Giant ladder in back.

I think you got "shorted". That is 18" from the step to the open tailgate.

On my wife's 2016 Ram 4x4 it is 21" from the step to the open tailgate.

Your's is 4" higher from the ground .

After all this fall-de-rall - a short aluminum ladder may be the answer. Just have to wait and see. I think the BestStep will be an excellent "mud collector". With the almost daily rains - the short muddy section of the driveway persists.

I see the wife's pickup has mud flaps. I may have to go to something like that.

It has been an unbelievably wet year in the Nevada desert also. Rain or snow almost every day since the first of the year. Walking around on my field late yesterday afternoon I was amazed to see mushrooms sprouting up all over! In the desert! And normally dry washes are running overfull across the roads and into the desert floor....myself, I'm ready for some sunshine!
