What's funny to me is how this thread has morph'd. Started regarding the demise of cities. Now, 239 posts later, it's talking about getting electrocuted (shocked). And "shock" is in the title. How funny is that!!!!! Only on TBN!!!! :D
And what thread hasn稚 morphed on TBN??

Couldn't count how many times my wife and I laugh when we see ads for gym memberships and fitness centers. And then people today complain on how hard they have it.

I know people that have memberships to gyms and they pay someone to mow and maintain their yards...!

The only thing I would do near a downed power line is take small steps away from it and let the utility company deal with it. Small steps are in case you are on hot soil, taking small steps reduces the possible electric potential from one foot to another. Shuffle alway basically. Leave it for the professionals.
Ditto...

That thought crossed my mind again today while out in the "general population". As for parking. They do everything in their power (it seems) to avoid exercise and then try and find time for the gym. I park in one spot and walk all over town,

I'm curious if there are cases where someones vehicle was live from downed lines and they got hurt from exiting the vehicle and making contact with ground.

I think I can remember at least one case a few years ago. Course years could be decades at this point.:shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Quick search showed this surprising incident. Makes sense now that I read it but would not have thunk it even though I should know better.

Downed Power Line Results In Family Tragedy - Safe ElectricitySafe Electricity
The deaths of three members of a California family demonstrate the dangers associated with downed overhead power lines. Authorities believe high winds caused the 12,000 volt line to topple into the back yard of a San Bernardino residence. At that location a 43-year-old man apparently was electrocuted either by contact with the wire or by the voltage radiating from the point where the wire touched the ground.

Authorities believe the manç—´ wife and their 21-year-old son were subsequently in turn electrocuted when they attempted to rescue those previously overcome by the deadly current.

Safe Electricity urges everyone encountering downed power lines to assume that they are live. Always assume that theyæ±*e hot and never go close. Since it is impossible to know if a power line is energized or not, one should always avoid it. Electricity is always looking for a path to the ground, and from the point where a wire contacts the earth, deadly voltage will radiate for an unknown distance.

Firefighters found the bodies of the three family members at the San Bernardino home, but said it was too dangerous to immediately free them. The firefighters had to wait until the utility linemen cut the power and the bodies could be recovered.

The Safe Electricity program puts great importance on always knowing where power lines are located around you. Anyone on foot can become fatally injured, whether touching a low hanging power line or being near one on the ground.

Isaiah and Alex Lopez, ages 11 and 12 respectively, were walking around Oakland Lake Park the day after a storm tore through the Fort Worth area and downed several power lines, Dallas News reported. Alex was electrocuted when he stepped into a puddle near a fallen line.

One more that ended in a $9 million settlement, $9,, Settlement for Wrongful Death of 24 year old Electrocuted by Downed Power Line | Valenzuela Law Firm, P.A. |

A storm caused a tree branch to fall on top of an overhead an power line causing the line to collapse and separate. The exposed line fell behind a wooden fence separating the Plaintiff's home from his neighbor's home. The line caused the wooden fence to catch on fire. The Plaintiff , a 24 year old male , went to investigate what looked like a fire in his backyard. He could not see the downed power line. Unbeknownst to him the line and rain energized the ground in his backyard. When he stepped off nonconductive pavers onto the wet ground he was immediately shocked causing him to fall to the energized ground. He remained on the energized ground for approximately 30 minutes until the power to his home was turned off by the power company. He was subsequently taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

I did not find the incident I remember but I found a link about a man killed when his car hit a power line and he was electrocuted. Unfortunately it was a video link and not text.

Given how many people have been killed by downed power lines on the ground, it would be possible to be electrocuted getting out of a car if live power lines are involved.

Later,
Dan

Downed power lines should never be taken lightly!
Personally you will never see me "pushing" them out of my way with my equipment
