Dealer says I should stay at 5 foot width but I壇 like to get more efficient cutting done if I can. Only mowing tall weeds, some grass, no saplings, smooth field with mild grade, 10 acres.

Is this a rough cut or finishing mower? I have a B2710 and run a five foot rough cut mower or as we call them a "bush hog" and it handles that fine. There is good bit of weight jump I think from it to a 6 foot rough cut mower. If rough cut think you would want or need front weights. My B2710 does have front weights on it.

On finish mower run a 6 foot on it, rear finish mower. Unless in real heavy grass handles it fine.

Like kthompson said, a lot of your tractors ability to operate a 6 footer depends on the weight of the implement. I run a 6ft. brush mower with a 27 horse tractor, but I only cut areas that have been previously mowed. (pasture clipping) I have found that about a half a bucket of dirt in the FEL helps the steering and stability a lot. Another thing to remember is a 6 ft. rotary is lots longer as well, so less maneuverability around fence posts and trees. I find that out more often than I care to admit. In reality, I don't think that extra foot of cut speeds things up that much, so when and if I get another one, I would buy a 5 ft. just because I believe the larger one creates a lot of extra stress on a smaller tractor...…..Dan

I agree. I ran a 5ft on my 45hp tractor and it seemed to be about right.. I think a 6ft would have made me slow down, what would I have gained other than weight and less maneuverability.

I ran a 5' land pride finishing mower on my L2501 quite easily

Maybe stay with a 5' mower. I'm running a 6' on mine, but I have 32 pto hp. I have no problems with it at all, even 6' tall weeds. I also leave my FEL and bucket on when I'm mowing, so no need for additional front weights.

I went to a 6 ft with my new 2538 and was surprised how much faster i was able to mow the same area over the 5 ft. I think going to hst over my other shuttle shift tractor was also faster.

My '63 Ford 2000 is currently connected to a Kodiac Med. Duty, 6'. Works just fine and in fields where crop density varies, if I get into heavy stuff and the tractor starts asking for help....pretty dense usually wet stuff, I just move over, cutting less till it likes it and go on about my business.

I have 1000+ hours on a 5'Bush Hog branded medium duty mower on three different tractors 30-44 HP;the smaller tractors were a good fit for this mower.
I purchased a LandPride 6' for the larger tractor;good fit for that machine.Only slow down was in 6-7' extra thick canary grass.

Here ya go. A 6 foot cutter is only a 6 foot cutter while making the first pass. After that it can be whatever width you need, up to 6 feet.
