Chainsaw Helmet shopping

Construction plastic hard hats have a manufacture date molded in them and I would hope forestry helmets would as well. General rule of thumb on Constrution hard hats is 2 to 5 years. Why they cannot just stamp the date in simple MM/DD/YEAR I do not know. Here is the key.

The sticker on my new hardhat says throw away after 5 years of constant use.

I did a little redneck engineering on my new hard hat this afternoon, 1st is get the earmuffs stay in snug when it clicks in, a little peice of foam ear plugs seem to work.

Now helmet transportation, there's a lot on chainsaw placement ideas on tractors but not much on carrying a chainsaw helmet. I always just drilled a hole to hang on nail but I wanted to advance that idea a little, the first couple pics are my old helmet then on to the new improved helmet hanger, I think.



Now for the new improve-ish....................

Bought a 3M one a couple years ago primarily because I'm not cutting on a daily basis and the UV indicator they put in some of their models gives the indication of when it needs to be replaced due to UV exposure. Which from my understanding is the reason for replacing helmets that haven't otherwise been compromised or just worn out. It was a H-706RFK-UV from: 3M Lumberjack Hard Hat 59371, 6-Point Ratchet Suspension, Orange | RSHughes.com - it may be cheaper elsewhere at any given time, but at the time they were the best price I found.

...and I wear it consistently when doing any overhead or other major cutting on trees (with any type of saw) because I've been whacked over/across the head enough during my life that I've learned I really don't enjoy being hit in the head and I can't always control if/when it may happen.

The only "complaint" I've ever had is that while it does have the screen mesh, small shavings can and will get through (especially if you're using a pole saw and looking up) which really isn't an issue since after learning that I just starting wearing my shooting/ballistic protection glasses as well ---- which oddly enough is something I think the helmet guidance/manual/instructions actually recommended....

That helmet is a little on the high side but it might be a better one then what I bought although I dont recall getting sawdust threw my shield. I seem to be warring glasses more and more anyways so I'm sure it helps and doesn't take much of a limb to make a wake up call.

There is a Pfanner Protos Integral Forestry Helmet as well. I've never worn one, but a logger friend of mine absolutely loves his.

I said yikes to, but just think how cool and professional you'll look cutting wood, all the wild life and your friends would go wow....... My friends would go wow to but say how crazy I was for paying that much, and then with no neck guard and it doesn't look like the visor flips up either, I gotta have that.

You can always use for a snowmobile helmet as well, looks kinda like one..

Slight problem there to, I dont have the luxury of owning a snowmobile, but it does look like it would be good for that, if it's warm.
