San Francisco is now mapping where human feces are a problem....

Looks like one big turd. Seattle is about the same.
Not sure of the data you present. First I laughed... and then I checked myself. Not for turds, but I have grown up in both the Seattle area and the Bay Area and it is truly sad to see the decay of the cities. I once begged to make trips into the city. I used to ride my bicycle from Bellevue into Seattle to go the cinema to watch Bruce Lee movies. When I moved to the Bay Area I lived in Berkeley and commuted to SF (marina district) for work. Played pick up hoops with whoever was there, bopped around town finding cool stores, hunted around with an SLR and fledging photography hobby. Can one still do that?

Now when I visit my old stomping grounds, whether it be Seattle or SF to relive some of my fond memories, I quickly realize they have been destroyed and I just want to get the heLLout.

I have lived in the "sticks" for over 6 years. My old friends still ask if I like it here.

One thing about decay...it is akin to putting a frog in a pot and slowly increasing the heat. It does not try to get out, it just dies as the temperature goes up.

People in the city accept the slow erosion of their life style. Some wake up and some do not. I saw it happen to my parents as our neighborhood deteriorated. By the time the place was sold, it had dropped to less than half of what it was once worth.

A massive amount of data recently published on health - more than I have the time or inclination to go through. But very apropos to this topic

I agree but with one observation...

Cities tend to go in cycles... I kept hearing how nice Oakland was in the 1950's and then people started moving out... by the time I was walking to school there were plenty of abandoned homes no one wanted... only seen similar in Detroit...

People said it was never coming back and just how bad things had become...

Fast Forward and there is not a single abandoned/foreclosed home around... population is growing and vacant shopping centers are again full...

I guess the question is just how long is the cycle?

And the reason?
Is it because it is only across the bay from SF and more affordable?
How long will that last?

The real reason is two folds... jobs and those drawn here plus the natural beauty/climate...
