New Non-Emission Tractors

Is there any actual improvement of the air quality after we've been forced to use all this emission crap on cars, trucks, tractors, etc?

It's just another easy way for someone to make big money.

What's the point of having to use a DPF on a tractor, if you have to run it pretty much wide open, just burning extra fuel, creating unnecessary wear and then the regen will just dump all the crap out anyway?

I'm am probably one of the least environmental people on this site, but I think the emissions stuff is a good thing. At some point we have to say enough is enough. It happened on cars over 40 years ago on cars and yet you hardly ever hear of people complaining cars don't have enough power. They have more power, get better fuel mileage, and the exhaust is much cleaner than ever. It will just take some time for diesels to catch up.

Yes. It's been very visible in air over the big population centers of California (greater SF and LA areas). The air's noticeably clearer now than it was in the '70s even though there's many more vehicles on the roads. While there are some aspects of some emissions laws that I disagree with the general effect has been positive.

Cool. I wasn't aware that there was that much improvement by using this stuff. I'm all for better air quality but the amount of problems and expenses these systems have, just needs a lot more work done to it.

We used to have this 2009 VW Golf. It gave us all sorts of problems with the emissions system. I'm pretty sure it was just a first generation of DPF. It was constantly going to limp mode. 350$ every time to get that thing cleaned. But after that VW scandal, I think that was partially the cause of the problem. We ended up trading the car.

Now with a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander with a DPF and DOC, it works so much better and it will actually resume the regen cycle if we shutdown the car and then restart it. Where the VW wouldn't do it and it would take days till it decided to go into regen, then it was already plugged again.

I apologize to everyone for venting and starting this crap storm, LOL

If you like emission motors go for it. Me, no thanks. Waste of my hard earned money. Running several here from pickups to class 8 trucks to off highway equipment and none of them have proved themselves to me. Enough said.

Anyway, back to original thought. Not that I would ever buy one of these tractors....just wondering how they got away with selling new current year non-compliant engines that's all. Seemed interesting to me in that how they could get away with it when no one else could.

Ding, Ding. We have a thread winner.

If it's rated 25hp or below, it doesn't need anything.

This got me thinking....is that limit 25hp total or is it based on a 25hp engine? What if two under 25hp engines were installed to run in tandem kinda like the hot rod tractor pulling tractors that have upwards of 4 or 5 engines on them?

About a year or so ago I stumbled across an article specifically addressing this subject. The article stated that each manufacturer was allocated a set number of tractors that could be manufactured for sale that did not meet Tier 4 guidelines after they took effect. After that number is met then all units must meet Tier 4. This was supposed to help the lower volume manufacturers financially. Can't remember where I read it though.

We need some grey market imported Kubotas[/QUOTE

Why go back to dirty, air polluting, cancer causing technology? Buying and maintaining those emissions systems is far cheaper than dealing with the health effects dirty internal combustion engines cause.

How many tractors do you own Alaska?

I’m no environmental snowflake myself, but I’ve traveled to 43 countries at last count and all you gotta do is go to any city in a third world country to experience the raw pollution from emissions free diesel cars and trucks.

You smell it the instant you step off the plane, the acrid diesel soot coats the insides of your nose, mouth, eyes, and ears. Blow your nose and it comes out black. Add to that the smoke from locals burning wood and trash to keep warm in the winter.

We have a lot to be thankful for and every time I get back to the USA, I feel so thankful for the clean air and the good roads and all the conveniences that actually work.

I’m not a fan of forced regulation and expensive pollution controls on our machines but it makes a difference in the air we breathe.

The air looks much better here in PA. HOWEVER, I attribute that to the industry that drove our economy being shipped off to China. Oh, and have you seen what their air looks like now?
