Sorry, the pic didn't show it well. You can't close the door. It hits the stool. That's typical in all their construction. Everything is tiled. Horribly.

I see lattice trusses advertised all around Virginia, mainly as part of cheap garage packages.

If the keyword is "inexpensive" then OSB is always going to be your best choice. Rip a sheet in half and you can cover 16 linear feet for less then $10. Nothing else will even come close.

If appearance is a consideration, look into Smart Siding. It's a higher grade OSB then the normal construction stuff and the appearance side has a wood grain stamped into it that looks like T1-11 siding, but a lot nicer.

Or advantech - that stuff is not like the OSB of old.

When I get that far, I'm going to buy 12"x12" porcelain tile, and do the bottom 4' of the walls with them.

HD has them for a buck a piece, all the time.

Seems like they would break real easily if you run into them with something.

Ceramic tile is somewhat easy to break. Porcelain tile is not.

They rate the tiles for hardness and if you are concerned, you can get exceptionally hard ones, if you pay more.

You would have to hit the wall hard enough, that you would do substantial damage regardless of what you have on it, to have a problem with porcelain tile. Every day wear and tear, isn't going to have any affect on it.

If it's only 4 feet high, you can simply put your nails above that point.

It's not hard to drill a hole first, for attaching junk, if you buy the right drill bit.

You can also leave big enough gaps, and grout them. That will allow you to easily hang stuff in those groves.

Nothings going to be the perfect solution for everyone.

Decision Made: I'm going with plywood.

Lots of great suggestions. I really like the Puck Board idea, but not easy to source. 3/4" plywood sanded on one side and painted is the way I'm going.
It will be 1/2" off the concrete floor to avoid direct contact and minimize moisture. I will also paint the plywood front, back, and all edges to seal it.
